Just fired IG had opened an investigation into *Secretary Pompeo* who recommended he be fired

House Foreign Affairs chair @RepEliotEngel
: “I have learned that the Office of the Inspector General had opened an investigation into Sec. Pompeo. Mr. Linick’s firing amid such a probe strongly suggests that this is an unlawful act of retaliation.”

Engel says, "I have learned that the Office of the Inspector General had opened an investigation into Secretary Pompeo. Mr. Linick’s firing amid such a probe strongly suggests that this is an unlawful act of retaliation."

"This firing is the outrageous act of a President trying to protect one of his most loyal supporters, the Secretary of State, from accountability," said Engel, the House Foreign Affairs Committee chairman, in a statement.

A senior State official confirmed that Pompeo made the recommendation that Linick be removed, but the official did not know the reasons why. The decision to choose Akard as his successor was done in consultation with his management team, but Pompeo ultimately made the decision

Nixon executed the Saturday Night Massacre knowing full well it would backfire big time. He was desperate. But if Nixon had had a Bill Barr, the locked support of the GOP senate and a media operation like FNC, who knows what he would have stopped at, if anything.

A Democratic aide adds some detail: They say Linick’s office was looking into Pompeo's "misuse of a political appointee" at State Dept. to perform personal tasks for himself & wife Susan Pompeo. State Dept. spokesperson hasn't returned requests for comment on Engel statement.

They don't even bother to hide it because they believe their all untouchable. It's true, between Trump, his corrupt AG, his partisan judges, his craven cabinet and the insipid congress, they have nothing to fear.

The pledge from the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee came during a virtual town hall on MSNBC, when Biden was asked by a voter whether he would be willing to commit “to not pulling a President Ford” and pardoning Trump “under the pretense of healing the nation.”

“Absolutely, yes. I commit,” Biden responded, adding: “It’s hands-off completely. Look, the attorney general of the United States is not the president’s lawyer. It’s the people’s lawyer.

25. Trump sicced the DOJ and FBI on Senator Richard Burr for (allegedly) improperly selling stocks
Sat May 16, 2020, 05:40 AM
May 2020

after receiving early warnings during the initial COVID-19 Senate briefings. Senator Burr (R-NC) was forced to resign as chairman of the (IC) Senate Intelligence Committee because of the FBI's ongoing insider trading investigation.

From all accounts, Senator Burr was targeted by AG Barr and the FBI for having the temerity to investigate Russia's involvement in the 2016 election, and looking into whether Putin helped Trump win the presidency. Trump was extremely unhappy about Burr's IC oversight, seeing it as personal disloyalty to him.

Senator Burr (and Senator Warner, D-Va) just released their committee report at the end of April, stating:

“The Committee found no reason to dispute the Intelligence Community’s conclusions...One of the ICA’s most important conclusions was that Russia’s aggressive interference efforts should be considered ‘the new normal.’ That warning has been borne out by the events of the last three years, as Russia and its imitators increasingly use information warfare to sow societal chaos and discord. With the 2020 presidential election approaching, it’s more important than ever that we remain vigilant against the threat of interference from hostile foreign actors."

Clearly, Trump ordered Bill Barr to investigate Senatot Burr for stock trading improprieties because Burr's Senate IC was looking into Russian influence during the 2016 election. Trump - the vindictive and corrupt POS - just got rid of someone else for doing required government oversight.

Linick's testimony might have put Pompeo behind bars (still might, for that matter). How's THAT for a "reason why?"
