Like many of us, Jean Pretto (nee Wesemann) was born and raised in South St. Louis County and has lived in Oakville her entire life. Her father worked at Anheuser-Busch and was a member of the Teamsters, while her mother was a homemaker. Jean graduated from Bishop DuBourg High School and Webster College where she received a Bachelors degree in Music Education.
Her future husband Joe returned from Vietnam in 1971 and the couple were married soon after. Joe is a retired Teamster who worked at Vess Soda for 36 years. The couple have been happily married for 48 years. Together they raised two wonderful daughters and are the proud grandparents of nine. Both daughters graduated from Oakville High School.
Jean began a career in teaching at Hixson Junior High in the Webster School District while still in college. She then worked as a substitute teacher in The Mehlville School District as well as teaching music at Most Precious Blood Catholic School.
Her work experience also includes 27 years in the automobile business. After retiring from George Weber Chevrolet, Jean returned to her love of education, teaching music and choir at Green Park Lutheran School. During this time, she also earned her Masters degree in Education Administration and Supervision. Jean Pretto most recently served as the interim Chancel Choir director at Peace Lutheran church and as the Director of Education at the Sylvan Learning Center.
Because of her love of education, and wanting to serve our community and young people, Jean ran for and was elected to the Mehlville School Board in 2014. In April of that year, she was awarded the Advanced Board Member Certification from the Missouri School Board Association, and in April of 2017 she earned her Masters Certification and was re-elected.
Jeans other community involvement has included serving two terms as president of the St. Annes Sodality of St. Francis of Assisi Church and as a volunteer each year with the Step Up to Downs Syndrome Walk in Forest Park. For many years, Jean Pretto also served each summer at Vacation Bible School for Faith Lutheran Church in Oakville where she is also a member.
