The law of unintended consequences and fast tracking Covid 19 vaccine

Just to be clear, I am not any kind of anti-vaxer. I wish I still had my military shot record. I think it needed to be z-folded. I got the usual childhood diseases like chicken pox and measles without injury. I was one of the lucky ones to not get polio before I received the 3 (iirc) injections and latter the oral. Not so lucky were some of my friends who were in braces and/or wheelchairs because of polio.

Now that it is clear I am pro-vaccination here's my concern and a possible unintended consequence of a fast tracked vaccine without adequate testing. If a vaccine gives protection but causes injury in some way that would've been clear with more testing this will be fodder for the anti-vax idiots. "See, we told you vaccinations are bad."

I want people to be protected from this virus as much as anyone. I just don't want us to suffer unintended consequences.

there ain't gonna be no C-19 vaccine. That is because there has never been any vaccine developed for any coronavirus --- Sars, Mers, -- nuthin. No vaccine.

And to be clear, there's never been a HUMAN coronavirus vaccine. There are corona vaccines for animals.

It's my understanding that one reason there's no vaccine for SARS or MERS is because the epidemics died out before any vaccine got to the testing phase. You can't really test a vaccine if there's no significant qty of virus to test against. But, this research could be useful in bootstrapping vaccine development for COV2.

...Oxford has been working with Coronaviruses for about a decade. I don’t know all the scientific details (writer, not science-er) but there is a baseline or root to all of them that is the same and has been mapped or whatever that is. I think they were close to a breakthrough before this outbreak. We might luck out.

...I'm far from an anti-vaxxer too, but I distrust ANYTHING coming from this incompetent, sociopathic, careless misadministration. You can not SAFELY "fast track" a vaccine. EVEN if they come up with one, Trump will have a "do me a favor though" attitude about distributing it to certain groups of people or states or even other countries. It will be a legal and ethical sewer.

THEN, it may be unsafe. Personally on this one, I'd wait to see how many people it sickens or kills first and listen to the EXPERTS (NOT TRUMP) on how safe and effective it is. AFTER they've had time to analyze it.

Fortunately, it was by and large kept off the US markets, but other countries suffered miscarriages and many of those born had limb or other deformities.

Few will take any vaccine while trump is still in office from his being so corrupt , and his constant lying on everything. Nothing trumps says, or claims should be confused with the truth. Any trump vaccine will be widely opposed because he's lied so much.

I read earlier this week or the end of last, that they would not make it available to the United States population when it's ready to be rolled out. Who knows for certain if that was just a punk to gig tRump or not. Based on the way tRump has basically taken a shit on NATO country members, I don't blame them. It's just sad that the population of this country will suffer ultimately the greatest because of him. I've seen no no other better example of the biblical phrase "...the sins of the father will be visited on the children for generations..."

if a vaccine comes out this year put me in the back of the line. I never get the flu shot and have done just fine, the reason being I was talked into getting the bird flu shot which was a scam.

The GOP is a criminal organization and will cross every ethical boundary to get this “vaccine” done.

Arm twisting, threats, intimidation, black mail, even murder are all fair game. Right wing media provides the propaganda. Scamming the taxpayers for maximum profit is always a given. Whether the vaccine cures or kills, sickens, etc. is just incidental from its main purpose of re-electing Trump.

anyone should accept and the one most likely to generate the earliest "Mission Accomplished" moment. OOPS, they already did that with Bleach, Disinfectant and Chloroquine.

I am surprised he hasn't suggested a solution combining Alcohol and Gunpowder. OOPS, he did that too!

WOW, Trump really is running out of options.

It wont happen before the election. So Trump actually wont care anymore, so win or lose he wont push. This is even more true because the rest of the world will push back really hard.
