The results of a Spanish study on Covid-19 immunity have a scary takeaway

One of the worst coronavirus outbreaks in the world isn’t anything close to a worst-case scenario.

Spain has had one of the worst Covid-19 outbreaks in the world, which makes a recently completed antibody-testing study of the Spanish population so significant — and so scary.

Preliminary results from a well-designed survey of antibody presence among Spaniards suggest that even as the Spanish outbreak exploded and then was brought under control, only 5 percent of the country’s population has been infected with the coronavirus so far. This means that the vast majority of the Spanish population remains susceptible to infection if the lifting of restrictions there leads to a new spike in cases.

The message to the rest of the world is that as awful as the pandemic has been in Spain — where more than 27,000 people have died, a far higher per-capita death rate than in the US or even Italy — it’s not even close to an upper limit on how bad things can get.

Serology surveys, explained

When people talk about coronavirus testing, they usually mean a test to detect the presence of the virus in your body and to determine whether you need to isolate.

He has no clue whats about to happen to those that do without adequately testing and monitoring, and his not making masking mandatory to lower the spreading of this virus. These additional failures will expose trump and the Republicans even more, and right before the election. Not getting nearly enough direct stimulus will only drive us towards a trump depression faster. He knows he's in deep , deep trouble or he wouldn't be lying his ass off so much. Or promoting lies of false hope constantly.

He is going to take as many people (losers) with him as possible. When the election heats up malice in its purest form rules.

How many of them will be around to vote for him in Nov.? They also scoff at voting by mail, so they can't even vote from their hospital beds.

5. Per that report: Infection fatality rate in Spain is 1.15%

If 60% of the US get infected
= 60% x 331,000,000 people x 1.15% = 2,283,900 Americans dead

and probably a similar number disabled from the strokes and organ damage.

Those people will typically have a spouse, a couple of kids or parents and a best friend that this will significantly impact.
= 2 (for disabled & dead) x 2,383,990 x 5 = 22,839,000 Americans significantly affected.

That's one out of every 15 Americans you know.

And a bunch of it is because the psychopath in the White House wants to be reelected rather than minimize the death and disabilities of the people he is sworn to protect.

This is very troubling.

With the sabotaging effort by Fox News and decisions from Donnie Dimwit's Gut,
the second and third spikes are gonna be brutal.

But fundamentally, unless the United States finds a way to genuinely suppress the virus’s spread, the move to “reopen” the country runs the persistent risk of sparking a genuinely catastrophic outcome. The Spanish experience has been horrific, but the new data confirms that the worst-case

Sure would be nice if we had a competent president. It would even help if we had a few competent GOP Senators.
