I think they're sort of stupid opportunists if they think clinging like a barnacle to Trump will help them in their re-elections. But presumably they have some rationale, because none of them actually like him, from what I can tell.

And one would think that GOPers would still remember Cruz's speech at their convention in 2016 when he told the delegates to "vote your conscience." I can't stand people who stab me in the back (or in plain sight) and then act friendly with me, but that seems to be how Republicans normally operate.

and extremely short sighted when liberals want to ban free speech because they do not agree with it. Would you also ban the books the Fox people write, or perhaps burn the ones currently in circulation? They have a right to express their opinions, we have a responsibility to fight back in kind.

burn books. SCOTUS has repeatedly ruled that even "hate speech" is legally protected free speech under the First Amendment, most recently in 2017 when the "justices unanimously reaffirmed that there is effectively no hate speech exception to the free speech rights protected by the First Amendment."

I am in favor of bringing back the Fairness Doctrine, requiring broadcast licensees to present controversial issues in an "honest, equitable, and balanced" manner, but that would likely be overturned by the courts as also limiting free speech. So, we're stuck with Rupert Murdoch using the freedoms afforded by our First Amendment to divide us and foment hatred.

Although they are currently better organized, united and controlled than in the past.

In a very real sense, though, the feckless majority of others who didn't bother to keep the hard right out of power are to blame. It's not that the hard right hasn't always trumpeted what they are and what they're capable of. But too many others were spoiled by the wellbeing and rights and protections they were born to during the liberal New Deal era, and thought would always be theirs, to worry about it.

In good times liberals have the numbers to advance society and protect those too foolish to be able to protect themselves. In bad times we don't, and we've had a number of bad times over the centuries.

I would like to know the methodology. I still think republicans are over-sampled. I can't prove it, but I know it's true. (stole that from Bill Maher)

Are most of these calls reaching land-lines or cell phones? Do they ask the age and political affiliation of the respondent? I would have to know a lot more to believe that these numbers were correct.

The right-wing media is still cheering the idiot, painting him as a victim, etc.

They rarely admit mistakes either, just like the orange blob. You're never going to see someone like Dan Rather on their networks, resigning because he and his helpers goofed on a story.

Once those people got sucked-in -- which was ultimately their own fault, like people who join Scientology -- it's going to be hard to pull them back out.

Progress has to be gained over time. Social norms will only change over years and generations.

Allowing Trump and his following to take control of the presidency has set us back decades.
