A mythical mermaid monster from Japanese folklore has made a resurgence in the countrys popular culture recently as people hope for the end of the coronavirus.
Amabie is a 19th-century Japanese spirit (known as yokai) who is said to ward of plagues.
According to legend, Amabie was said to have appeared to a Samauri and told him to draw a picture of her and show it to people to keep them safe from a coming pandemic, according to BBC News.
The fishy, longhaired, birdlike yokai has inspired everything in Japan in recent weeks -- from cakes and noodles to face masks and hand sanitizers. She even sparked the AmabieChallenge on Twitter that urges people to draw her.

(62,444 posts)You are always welcome in my home and I owe you the deepest gratitude for bringing that piece of joy to my attention.
My deepest sorrow is that Jack Van Impe is not around to enjoy a global pestilence, but shes really getting into a solid Jimmy Swaggart kinda vibe (although wholly untethered from anything recognizable as even a conservative Christian Gospel of Jesus Christ).
She is a straightforward grifter and proud of it.
That is begging for a remix.
