Lockdown Protests May Have Spread Virus Widely
May 18, 2020 at 7:24 am EDT By Taegan Goddard
The data raises the prospect that the protests will play a role in spreading the coronavirus epidemic to areas which have, so far, experienced relatively few infections.

(10,038 posts)There was news here that Abbotts government was combining Covid-19 testing for the virus with antibody tests of people who already had the virus to make testing numbers look better. Given the governors of Florida and Georgia, I would not trust one bit of data coming from those states.

(16,937 posts)It was in jest that I called the RepubliCons the "death panel" - but MY GAWD, there's the proof!
This needs to be heard - this needs to be out there - they'll do ANYTHING to win, even death.

(6,930 posts)They may be hiding the numbers. However, I saw disturbing stories about people in NYC partying like crazy with no precautions. I expect Cuomo to be honest if there is a spike there.

(23,138 posts)They don't care that much if it's their supporters or our side, any working class person who dies is one more who won't want to collect the social security money the rw is planning on stealing the day after drumpf is confirmed for his 2nd shot of killing the USA off. Besides, they are truly stupid and think that more Dems will die than repugs. I can't wait for karma to prove them very and deadly wrong.

(35,337 posts)These don't = "have".
I'd also argue with "suggests": The data are compatible with claiming that for the protests examined they did travel hundreds of miles, etc., a bit starker than "suggests."
The rest is just saying, "It could happen."
Always remember that "may" implies "might not".
I might go to the store today. I might not go to the store today. Which I choose to say between two equally true statements depends not on truth but on expectations and goals. If I'm pointing out the possibility that I'll be heading to a store and that wasn't known, I choose the former; if I'm pointing out expectations might not be met and I'll be a homebody, I choose the latter.
"Lockdown protests may have spread virus widely" is trying to pretend like it's new news about a possibility. That just services to confirm expectations, which is why some people have taken it as more confirmation than it can be. Since I think a lot of people already had that expectation, what would actually suggest the possibility of novel information would be, "lockdown protests might not have spread virus widely."
Yes, there were "links." I'm linked to all kinds of things I have scant relationship to. When people can start talking causal relationship, then we can start talking science.
