Want to protect yourself from the virus, remember these three words.

Avoid PROLONGED contact. Everything I have seen and heard shows that most people who get infected are in an enclosed structures with someone who is infected for a long period of time. Nursing homes, meat packing plants, churches, bars, gyms, airplanes, etc.

If you go to the grocery store, move , shop quickly, you will probably will not get infected. If you go for a walk and pass by someone who is infected, you probably won't be infected. If you sit outside at a restaurant away from people, you probably won't get infected. The same goes for the beach.

An infected person who sits in an enclosed structure for a prolonged period of time spreads the virus throughout the air. If you sit there for a long time, you chances of getting infected are very good.

You know what's crazy, if everyone wore a mask at all times when going out, the number of infections would drop big time. It is so sad many people don't understand this.

but it's true that the beach (as long as it's not crazy crowded) or the jogger that passes by are not major risks.

but sitting in a office for 8+ hours a day is still a meaningful risk, especially if the ventilation isn't great (separate ventilation by floor/area and with the outside is ideal). recirculated air within an entire office building is not good.

transportation and schools.

Many can't avoid public transportation and MOST can't avoid workplaces or exposure to their school-age children.

Once things open up, there really is no way for most people to avoid prolonged contact.

This morning was the first day, that every single person walking—running even—were wearing masks. One guy carries a folded towel and covers his face as he passes others.

and most people were wearing them and I only saw one doofus with the mask under her nose.

The exceptions were all male, all with Grizzly Adams facial hair. Don't know what can be done about them, I don't think mandatory shaving will go over well.

All the ones you see on FB saying "I aint wearing a mask" would suddenly think it was patriotic.

where it is, who has already been exposed, or who among us is actually carrying it and unintentionally exposing the rest of us. None of us do.

Yes, those who refuse or are afraid to mask up are NOT helping and pose added risk to everyone. Yes, some of them need "assistance" to see that we all need to use masks and distance to help each other.

I find that when I go out to do the minimal contact thing at the grocery store I feel as though I am walking through an invisible mine field. That feeling is mine, I know, but the conditions in the stores here aren't getting better with every fool who says "open up the state."

I don't know how we do it but we need a public and socially non-toxic way to discuss this at a community level. If someone would duct-tape the orange gorgon that would help, at least I hope it would. Talk about being closed for the duration for the greater good...
