WASHINGTON Joe Biden's presidential campaign said Monday that if he were elected to the White House, he would rescind the Keystone XL Pipeline permit.
The Keystone XL pipeline proposal was initially rejected in 2015 by the Obama administration, which included Biden as vice president, but approved two years later by the Trump administration. Rescinding the permit for the pipeline allowing it to cross the border into the United States would effectively kill the project.
Stef Feldman, the Biden's campaign policy director, told the USA TODAY in a statement that Biden strongly opposed the Keystone pipeline in the last administration, stood alongside President Obama and Secretary Kerry to reject it in 2015, and will proudly stand in the Roosevelt Room again as President and stop it for good by rescinding the Keystone XL pipeline permit.
"Stopping Keystone was the right decision then and its still the right decision now," Feldman continued, while also blasting President Donald Trump for withdrawing the United States from the Paris Climate Agreement and gutting environmental regulations.

After billions already spent. It seems the US can renege on its international agreements at will. Thanks.

(4,571 posts)approved in the first place, you're OK with reneging on agreements, especially after very large additional sums were expended on the project after Trump approved it??
Remind me never to do business with you...

(3,473 posts)Just like I didn't enjoy my addiction to cigarettes, I don't enjoy the dependency I have on fossil fuels and I am working towards solar panels and an electric vehicle. I don't see the absence of the pipeline to be a hindrance to those goals. I do see things that promote the use of fossil fuels to be a hindrance to the transition to renewable energy. So for the good of the environment and for the good of the Native Americans and their land, I say fuck them.
Are you personally invested in this somehow? I'm reminded of a quote 'It is difficult to get a man to understand something, when his salary depends on his not understanding it.' Upton Sinclair

(6,406 posts)Oil prices are so low and renewable energy getting cheaper, etc. Don't see how it makes sense unless you expect the price of oil to spike again...which I don't see happening. Right now, the goal is to keep the prices just below renewable energy to keep it viable.

(4,571 posts)Maybe that's one reason Biden thinks he can gain some political points by welching with no actual repercussions.
