Some of you here already know I am a CDC employee.
I've been teleworking full time since March.
Today we got word that we will remain working from home for the foreseeable future -- probably until the end of the year.
Our buildings are closed to us and the public.
Trump's road to normalcy is full of mine fields. And bullshit.

(31,261 posts)is why does Trump do something that he is telling Americans isn't needed. It looks like everyone at the White House that come near Trump gets tested daily and it looks like are now wearing MASKS. Those people would not be doing any of that unless Trump demanded it be done to protect his ass. Yet, he won't come out and say that ALL Americans should wear a mask over their mouth and nose when in public. The lunacy of his behavior defies all logic, even more astounding is that MAGATS are blind to the choices that Trump is making for his personal safety.

(28,811 posts)he thinks he can get the economy recharged by getting people out spending money. when the next wave comes it will only be worse, not to mention that many people are not going to go back to normal life any time soon, not to mention that millions of people's personal economies are already in the toilet.
he doesn't care about any of that. it's ironic, tragic, and absolutely disgusting.

(8,844 posts)Not by a very long shot. In fact, the next wave may far exceed anything that we have seen so far.
This virus appears immune to political rhetoric and takes no prisoners...
People will relax, just as if it was a long illness, and then WHAM.....
I, for one, am beginning to think about preparations for the next 6-12 months and procuring what might be needed for an extended period......
Time to dig in folks. Nothing we can do will help us prepare for the horror show of politics that surrounds us. But we sure as hell can prepare for an extended health lock down......
Just saying.......

(22,048 posts)I wondered about those of you working on this.
If you haven't read Tom Friedman's column in today's NY Times, I highly recommend it. He writes that we're dealing with Mother Nature who only cares about adaptability. By reopening too early, we're going to see spikes of new cases all over the country.
It's distressing to see how many Americans reject Science and Logic. The denial of the dangers of Covid-19 parallel those of climate change.
I fear for our future.

(15,948 posts)May do telework forever. I think that would be so great for everything especially the environment. I hope 60 percent decide to sell their buildings and telework. Maybe they can rent out a hotel ballroom once a month for a meeting once safe of course.

(4,168 posts)In fact, we have to get permission from a managing director to return to any office (we're global) once that region is officially opening up.
I'm incredibly thankful that I work for a company that is letting us make that decision, because I'm in a high-risk group (65 with compromised lung function). I've resigned myself to staying socially isolated for at least the next year, and may possibly end up working@home until I retire.

(31,261 posts)And for some Americans, republicans may be betting in the right direction. I don't know whether it was here on DU or in general news reading, a gym owner in New Jersey defied the state and reopened his gym, even AFTER losing a close family member to covid19, so that type is out there, the question is how many are there.

(38,326 posts)They are hoping to get their stuff.
They never learn until it's too late that stuff is nothing, if they ever learn at all.
What did Trump get from his parents?
Nothing.
What are Trump's children going to get from him?
Nothing.
Anything you can't keep in your head or in your heart is nothing.

(31,261 posts)Greedy younger people thinking the olsters will be killed off by covid19 and the youngsters will get the spoils. Racists seeing more POC dying, so they have concluded that reopening will hasten their main fever dream, a world without POC. But karma is such that greed and racism don't win out longterm, in fact they face massive defeat over and over in time.

(7,817 posts)testing? But hasn't the WH, CDC, and task force moved on from virus to economy?
And even if there's testing, will there be accurate reporting? We know Florida isn't reporting accurately. We know Trump feels China and Russia are under-reporting so why not him?
Too much, I'm reminded of the movie Three Days of the Condor in which the final line of the movie is 'how do you know they'll print it?' Meaning earth-shattering news that doesn't get reported doesn't exist.

(7,817 posts)INDIVIDUALS' interests at heart? Yes, we know more now, we are more prepared, more people are wearing gear...but the risk to individuals is still significant. As significant as two months ago, really. I'm happy for the larger community that we have flattened the curve for now. I'm still unhappy for the individuals who have the misfortune to contract this beast of a virus.
Because of the lockdown in California, I had more recently believed that the spread had been limited...that every fourth or fifth person wasn't contagious as serious hot spots can be...that incidence was fairly rare in Orange County. Now, we are back to thinking that we don't really know how many people have become contagious during the last week or two of beach openings and the like. I've driven through several of these beach communities and it is clear some are careful, some are not at all. it feels like just before the lockdown...we just don't know what is going on. As Fauci said, whatever we see is going on we are two weeks behind the virus reality.
If there is testing and reporting, perhaps in a week or two we will know if cases are on the upswing again. Until then...trying not to forget and get more relaxed with protocol. If there isn't testing and reporting then we just need good luck.

(12 posts)There are bad people in every profession, medical doctors included. While we know there are ill effects from this stay-at-home order, to compare it to a mass casualty incident is laughable. Random assigments to the color levels of an MCI? Really? This is the equivalent of Trump's doctors assigning him a "perfect" bill of health when we all know he's sedentary and obese.
