Officiating a wedding on the beach tonight for a friend behind a hotel. All the pandemic precautions the hotel promised were not only undelivered, the place looks like it is fucking Spring Break. Beach and bar are packed and not a mask in sight. It is like the pandemic is happening in a parallel universe. I am livid!
Fucking Florida.
DeSantis has blood on his sycophantic moronic hands.

(5,559 posts)Got food from a place with outdoor seating tonight. The outdoor area was in theory closed, and everyone had to go inside for takeout. Still almost every table outside was packed and hardly a mask in sight.

Avoid these areas. Let them die if they wish. I am in favor of people being allowed to commit suicide, if that is their wish.

(24,654 posts)have largely been in self-imposed household isolation since mid-March. Social distancing on steroids. When we heard the state was relaxing guidelines we all collectively said, "yeah, right, no way, staying put, thank you very much." Neighbors who I know to be lifelong Republicans are thoroughly exasperated with state and federal leadership on this and firmly staying locked down. One neighbor announced last week that he had changed his registration to Democrat for the first time in his life and couldn't wait to vote for Biden. I literally asked him to repeat himself. Twice.
So it is the bubble effect. I naively figured that much of my community felt the same as my family, friends, and colleagues. Sigh. I hate being reminded how many people are stupid, selfish, and reckless.

(24,654 posts)Wedding guests were all masked. It was weird. You could tell who was a wedding guest not just because of the nice clothing, but because they were the only ones masked and staying away from the crowds. Fortunately the set up for the wedding was off to the side.
I slipped on to the beach from a side service entrance to avoid hotel guests, set up my personal sound system ten feet from where the bride and groom were going to stand, and had already given them instructions on how to handle the rings since I wouldn't be holding them during the ring blessing. I didn't have to get anywhere near anyone and since it was outside I wasn't too concerned. I officiated the ceremony, packed up my gear, and left straight after.
I felt really badly for the bride, groom, and their parents. They were brought through the patio bar crowd to get down on to the beach. Fucking ridiculous.
I wouldn't have done the ceremony, but these are friends of mine. I officiated the bride's sister's wedding last year. The family took all precautions possible, but the hotel had led them to believe the place would be virtually empty. They were as gobsmacked by the crowds as I was. I could tell the bride's father was, um, less than happy and someone was going to hear about it.

Glad their marriage was performed in spite of all that.

But its crazy. Do they ALL think its a hoax? Or are they simply that stupid?

(574 posts)Once in February, and once in May. I'm a 61 year old widow still raising kids , ages 17& 21. They get my meds thru drive thru and pick up groceries curbside. They've been very good about staying home and not hanging with their friends. I'm worried about school opening in August. It is my 17 year old's senior year. I wish there was an option for e learning. We've only had 9 reported cases in our county but that can change as this area is the Truman lake area with many visitors and trump supporting lowly educated idiots.

(24,654 posts)are very good about staying home and not hanging with their friends. In a strange way, their tendency to congregate via their phones before this has been a blessing. They aren't as isolated as we would have been at their age.
Yes, we're doing drive through and curbside pickup as well. And once every two weeks.
My 17 year old will be a senior next year. I'll be surprised if they go back to school in August. I think we'll see distance learning into 2021.
