General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsHas anyone heard any reports about church attendance today?
I did a Google news search on the subject, but didn't come up with anything much that was recent.
I certainly don't get the impression that any governors anywhere (who weren't already opening things up too fast and too carelessly) responded at all to Trump's empty barking on the subject.
Anyone know about any surge in defiant churches, opening up against state laws, with crowds of unmasked Trump worshipers flooding in?
I've read more about people stupidly crowding beaches and swimming pools and restaurants, rather than faux-piously responding to Trump's pandering by filling the pews.

(45,806 posts)there are masses everyone us in pews right next to each other, I guess the people who were complaining either musn't care or maybe they have services outside.

(3,370 posts)There are dozens of churches near me. I've checked the pages of quite a few of them - several Mennonite (there are so, so many here), Catholic, Lutheran, Baptist, UCC, Episcopal, Methodist, Presbyterian, and non-denominational - all have remained closed this weekend. Some have directly addressed Trump's comments and said they are not rushing and will be taking it slow. I expected the Catholic, Lutheran, UCC, and Episcopal churches in my area to remain closed. I was pleasantly surprised to see some of the churches I view as more conservative evangelical to have statements regarding the President's command and their desire to take re-opening slow. I'm in PA for reference and my county is still in the red. Churches have not been prohibited from opening by our governor.

(45,806 posts)although it's not quite the same, I think the churches care about their congregation enough too protect them until the spread of the virus is gone or contained st they can be safe.

(45,806 posts)I don't know any evangelicals but I haven't heard that they were complaining about being confined to their homes.
