Socially acceptable white supremacy be like...

Great Graphic

White supremacy is a system of structural and societal racism which privileges white people over everyone else, regardless of the presence or absence of racial hatred. White racial advantages occur at both a collective and an individual level.

I thought this pyramid was a great check on unconscious privilege as well as a to do list of what not to do with some of the more covert ways of how people and systems can oppress even without actively realising it - even when as allies we try our best, auditing our behaviour every so often is never a bad plan. So I thought I would share it.

That terms like "women," "misogyny," "abortion" are completely missing from that pyramid is a shocking indicator of just how dangerously ignored and unaddressed this reality is.

White supremacy is not synonymous with male supremacy, but it is in practical terms so widely embraced as to be inseparable.

Half our nation are women, and this threat is directly to half of every race, ethnicity, religion and political orientation. And of course all the men for whom it's also unacceptable. But of course we can't unite against if we don't realize it's real and dangerous.

I was taught that with goodwill and love towards my fellow man by people who were trying to prepare me for the bigger world.
At the same time I was poring over The Family of Man, and every National Geographic within sight.
I learned to recognize differences too, and acknowledge that though the people were different looking, we all want and need the same basic things.
It's how I became a citizen of the world, and not just my own little bubble of existence.

I'm feeling more and more uncomfortable here, as a life-long liberal who fits a demographic that's apparently fair game for attack.
