(snip)
While many of the governors on the call avoided directly criticizing the president over his response to the protests, Illinois Democratic Gov. J.B. Pritzker confronted Trump over his recent rhetoric, saying he was in many cases making the situation "worse."
"I've been extraordinarily concerned about the rhetoric that's been used by you," Pritzker said. "It's been inflammatory and it's not okay for that officer to choke George Floyd to death, but we have to call for calm. We have to have police reform called for."
Pritzker added, "the rhetoric that's coming out of the White House is making it worse. People are feeling real pain out there. And we've got to have national leadership in calling for calm and making sure that were addressing the concerns of the legitimate peaceful protesters. That will help us to bring order."
Trump shot back, defending his comments made thus far about Floyd and attacking Pritzker over his response to the spread of coronavirus in Illinois.
"I don't like your rhetoric much either because I watched it with respect to the coronavirus and I don't like your rhetoric much either," Trump said. "I think you could have done a much better job, frankly, but that's okay we know we don't agree with each other."

(12,712 posts)It is interesting that a person who has done his job much worse than a screaming toddler having a temper tantrum every day could imagine that his comment about another person's work would hold sway or mean much at all.
I bet that's what comes to people's mind's when they hear things like that.

(518 posts)Of course, they can call for resignation or removal as a group, and that would be helpful especially if Republicans joined in.
But there are only two legal ways to actually get rid of him: impeachment and conviction (Congress), or 25th amendment (VP & Cabinet, with approval by Congress if the president objects).

Edit: Did they really have to talk to him? Next time, just have a secretary put him on permanent hold.

(13,041 posts)If i were one of the Dems governors. This is of course knowing he would use it as a platform for further self-aggrandisement, to belittle the governors, and to further fuel the flames of hate to make the situation worse and so that he would appear as if he's actually leading, when in fact he is a total coward.

(34,074 posts)That he frequently condemned what happened to George Floyd.
I will admit that I did not listen to his speech at the launch of the SpaceX rocket (the only specific place he mentioned making a statement), but I don't recall him commenting on it at all.
He followed this comment up with the equivalent of "many good people on all sides," by equating the murder of Geore Floyd to the injuries to people during the protest - for which we must impose retribution. (The word retribution is an exact quote, although the remainder is a paraphrase.)
