Mika on Morning Joe said that during the 2016 campaign Trump had thrown a Bible to her and Joe when

they were visiting him, and he told them it was a Bible his mother had given him.

Mika said the Bible had never been opened.

I don't think there's any way to be sure a book has never been opened, but it's usually easy to tell if it's been opened very often, and apparently that one hadn't.

I won't be surprised to see Trump attack her and Joe because of this anecdote this morning.

Editing to add a tweet from Mika on April 7, with the same anecdote:

There’s a distinct crackling when you open the book at the bookstore which has never been opened. The binding has never been asked to give before and you can feel it.

was the first church he'd been to in a year.

I don't go to church so I have to avoid hypocrisy here. But I'm not claiming to read the bible regularly.

I did go to church regularly until they asked me to join when I was 15 and I declined. I had read the bible cover to cover and studied it in school as the book I chose for my history class to determine if it was really a history book. I concluded it was not a reliable history book - it was closer to a book on theology.

I strongly suspect Trump never made such a journey or examination. He just panders to the evangelicals.

You have a sincere approach to religion. Trump doesn't.

Btw, Trump had Ivanka carrying the bible in her purse on the way to the church, and as soon as he walked away from the church, he handed if off to someone else. It was so obviously just a prop that he handled as little as possible, and didn't even seem to know how to hold.

Donald Trump Holds Up A Bible In Appeal To 'The Evangelicals'
January 30, 2016 8:56 PM ET

Donald Trump said a final word to evangelical voters on Saturday by showing them the Word of God.

In a Facebook video, the real estate mogul opens his Bible to thank "the evangelicals" for the support they've shown him in polls.

"My mother gave me this Bible, this very Bible, many years ago," Trump says. "In fact, it's her writing, right here. She wrote the name, and my address, and it's just very special to me."

He closes this way: "I want to thank the evangelicals," he says. "I will never let you down."
