I couldn't tell whether I was overreacting or underreacting. Some reduced what happened yesterday to a cheap campaign trick; others talked about the end of Democracy.

Yesterday a DUer likened the feelings he/she was experiencing to the moment the second plane hit the World Trade Center and that really expressed how I felt yesterday. I'm still a little shaky. It seems unreal.

I've been wishing some people who lived through the late Sixties could explain what is the proper reaction to this and what to expect. Is this the same or different? Will live ammunition be used against Americans by authorities?

That weird hollow but not in the pit of your stomach

Yes, feeling a weird surreal parallel to 9-11

Yes, in my opinion, there are a lot of aspects of this that feel the same. Perhaps because of technology, etc., this is more “in your face”. We didn’t have news available 24/7 in the 60’s so we weren’t glued to the news sources unless some big event (i.e., the JFK assassination) interrupted regular programming.

Yes, I very much fear that live ammunition is going to be used at some point. The looting and rioting (regardless of who is doing it) will not be allowed to continue indefinitely for fear of the loss of basic law and order. And it’s to Trump’s benefit (to bolster his crazy base) to look tough. It’s this combination that frightens me most.

I like your use of the word “shaky”. I realize that describes my own feelings - especially yesterday. Today is a little better for me because I’m taking a day of forced rest. I just couldn’t handle anything more.

As to how to react to this, I think it is as individual as we all are. Everyone is different. But I know one thing for sure. We need to love one another. Now more than ever. We need to be kind. We need to be compassionate.

So, to all, I send love.

Last night's events, that is, tear-gassing peaceful protestors, woke me up early. I was afraid of what I might see on the news this morning. I feared there had been a slaughter.

I’ve been crying nonstop. Yesterday was the worst. So much sadness everywhere. Yes, it’s collective and cumulative.

I loved what Rev. Gerbasi and Bishop Budde said. That gives me hope.

Today, I have promised myself a day to rest. I’ve been outside and conversed with a couple of squirrels. I took my time doing some chores and I’m seriously thinking of going back for a nap now.

We are all at our physical and mental limits.

Peace everyone.
