The account sent a tweet calling for violence at US protests.
A Twitter account posing as an antifa group and pushing violence at protests across the US was linked to white nationalist group Identity Evropa, as previously reported by NBC. The account was suspended after sending a tweet inciting violence, the microblogging site confirmed to CNET.
"This account violated our platform manipulation and spam policy, specifically the creation of fake accounts," the spokesperson said in an email.
Antifa, which is short for anti-fascists, is a general description of far-left groups that confront white supremacists and neo-Nazis at rallies and other events.

(36,058 posts)If people read about them, they'll see that they hold day jobs, have families, and only meet up when neonazis publicly show their faces.
Just wanted to point that out that they're not far left.

(14,174 posts)Are there some "far left" more radicalized young people that join up, sure. Are there anarchists and even simply bored youth entering marches for the excitement?, I guess. Vandals that cover their faces in black and are there simply to smash windows and destroy property? Unfortunately yes.
But that is a tiny minority. And they exist in ANY large protests. Of course they make the most sensational news clips. And a few individuals can reek a lot of damage. But lets not forget that the basic requirement for (unoffocial) membership is simply a desire to quell the rise of white nationalism and fascism in America. To be a counter protest to any gatherings of neo-nazis. And give visibility to what those groups represent. To call them out, and force them to visibly see there are many that are against the filth they preach.
Its all part of The Big Lie strategy. A way to paint the most ardent opposition to them as the enemy of the people. To intimidate anyone else from being "anti-fascist".

(36,058 posts)The Big Lie strategy, which is so Nazi, right? -- that strategy wants all Americans (and so some Democrats buy into it, too) to think anything left of their well established right wing rule in this government is "far left." We Democrats can't even be adjacent to that hype.
If so, then I and every American who support the Democratic Party platform and important organizations like Indivisible, Black Lives Matter, the ACLU, SPLC, NAACP, etc., etc. are ALL far left.
Being adjacent unwittingly allows a platform for right wing doubt and microagressions, constantly "answering to" them -- political dominance behavior they want to normalize. That's where the Right propagandists have been pushing Americans for the last three years.
No platform for right wing language and doubt. Draw the line and stay on the "far left" side of it. No butbutbuts about it.

(36,058 posts)Even the slow learners among Americans doubt that's true now, especially when people laugh on social media about it.

(443 posts)There is no doubt my mind Umbrella Man and the initial provocations that incited these riots were white nationalists. The political motivation is obvious. But let us not be naive and pretend there are not zealots on the left who are so whacked, they are almost indistinguishable from the right wing extremists. They gleefully jumped on board. They both want to burn it all to the ground so that their white nationalist or socialist utopia rises out of the ashes. Delusional extremist nonsense all of it. A lot of these leftists let us not forget, voted for Trump because they thought Clinton was a corporate sellout. These same folks think Biden is part of the problem and is a racist. They argue that there is there is no difference between Democrats and Republicans, both are corporatist shills. You know the rap. These folks are not our friends.

(557 posts)...and pronounced the word as 'an-TEE-fa', which is kinda meaningless sounding, and hides it's connotations.
I told him that wasn't right, and best way to say it was to remember that it's short for anti-fascist. I pronounce it 'an-tee-FAH' which is the true pronunciation of the term minus the last syllable. If we're gonna use their term, say it so they know that we know what it stands for.
And the term they've crafted itself is a tell, a kinda verbal flinch. They don't want to call us anti-fascists cuz that would admit that they're fascists. Nazies. Some of them may not be ashamed of that but for others, I bet it makes their stomach crawl that to know that the real America symbolized by the marvel character Captain America would not be on their side.

(296 posts)They weren't suspended for inciting violence. If that were the reason, Twitter would have to suspend Trump's account also. This account was suspended because it was fake. I had start a new twitter account because I called Brit Hume a "dumb nitwit" for MAKING FUN of Biden's appearance and for being responsible for wearing a face mask. Twitter told me I was harassing Hume (sure, he cried in the dark because of my harassment) YET by far Hume was harassing Biden.

Until and unless people leave that platform, Zuckerberg and his buddies will keep violent right wing organizations and allow them to organize violence at that site.
