CHARGED! those six officers that rained mayhem down on two colleges students for filming

(NEWSER) – A high-profile incident caught on video in Atlanta has led to more than just two officers being fired. Six officers who involved in the arrests of two college students who were pulled out of a car amid protests in the city Saturday night have been criminally charged, Fulton County District Attorney Paul Howard announced Tuesday. The AP reports the officers allegedly pulled 20-year-old Spelman student Taniyah Pilgrim from the car shortly after noticing that the driver, 22-year-old Morehouse student Messiah Young, appeared to be shooting video of a man who had been taken into custody. Young was told to stop the car and open the window; officers allegedly ultimately broke the window, used a stun gun on Young, and pulled him from the car. Both students were arrested. Howard said the investigation into Pilgrim and Young "concluded they were so innocent almost to the point of being naive."

The Atlanta Journal Constitution reports Pilgrim and Young shared their "satisfaction" and thankfulness regarding the charges. "I feel safer now that these monsters are off the street and no longer able to terrorize people," said Young, who CNN notes had a cast on his arm. His arm was fractured and he needed 24 stitches as a result of being pulled from the car. Howard said Young also told investigators that as he was led from the scene, an officer punched his back more than 10 times. Those charged, who have until the end of the day Friday to turn themselves in:

Officer Ivory Streeter (fired): aggravated assault, pointing or aiming a gun
Officer Mark Gardner (fired): aggravated assault
Officer Lonnie Hood (desk duty): aggravated assault, simple battery
Officer Willie Sauls (desk duty): aggravated assault, criminal damage to property
Officer E. Armond Jones (desk duty): aggravated battery, pointing or aiming a gun
Officer F. Ronald Claud (desk duty): criminal damage to property.

I would like to see them interviewed and answer why they felt this was all necessary while the video is played to them...I really want them to justify their actions...

Pretty confident a guy named "Ivory Streeter" fancies himself far above us. I'd bet he's still attempting to process why people are holding HIM responsible for this confrontation, as he snarls "I am...the law!" at his bathroom mirror in his best Stallone imitation.

and then dealt with quickly. These protests are showing how large a problem the law enforcement in the country is. I am hoping more and more are weeded out and charged.

The Police Unions are totally responsible for this mess! ...Just wait, if REAL TRUE reforms start to happen cops will start making arrest, stop patrolling wealthy areas, stop writing traffic tickets costing cities enormous refunds they need to function, etc.!!!

...The cops & their Union hold the power until politicians, prosecutors & judges BREAK THEM! ...After all, they're the ones who allowed them to grow into this rabid beast!

Every. Single. Time.

As with everything bad, if there are no consequences, the behavior will continue. If these toxic cops are held to account, then they won't expect to get away with it.

Depends totally on the police department employing the officer.

Seen it happen, but not often enough, during my 27 year criminal defense career.

... why the cop tried to yank him out of the car in the first place.

It sounded like the cop was talking nice, and suggesting that he go, and suddenly he opened the door and tried to pull him out. (It was admittedly a little hard to hear with some other woman screaming LOUDLY nearby.)

Then the level of force that transpired later was crazy, especially on the girl who was complying.
