I distinctly remember seeing one or two protesters sitting on the curb and dousing their faces with milk to counteract the tear gas.

"tear gas and smoke bombs." That's places like the WaPo and CNN, minutes after it happened.

I can't tell the difference between them in a video.

Smoke bombs are also irritants to eyes and lungs, but not like tear gas.

They weren't people! They were SQUIRRELS!!!! There were THOUSANDS OF SQUIRRELS, readying to attack with baseball bats, gathering on Pennsylvania Ave when we shot something at them that was most definitely not tear gas!
