The legacy of the Republicans in congress is being written.

They will be remembered as unimaginable cowards. They will be remembered for the radicalization of their voters, to the point where they became uncontrollable. They radicalized their voters to the point where the Republicans feared their own creation at such a level, they could no longer uphold their oath of office, defend their democracy or the constitution. In order to keep the monster they created from destroying them they turned into criminals.

They decided, in order to keep their jobs, they could not stand up against the monster they created. It was the monster that gave us Trump. The Republicans could not, did not have the courage to stand up against Trump because they feared the monster they created would remove them from office.
