Buffalo police Thursday night in front of City Hall, in a video seen by more than 58 million people, is a longtime peace activist from Amherst.
Martin Gugino, 75, was in serious but stable condition at Erie County Medical Center as of Thursday night, according to police.
"Hes a gentle person who really believes that he must stand up for what he thinks is right," said his friend Terrence Bisson, who has worked with Gugino on Latin American issues through the Western New York Peace Center.
"Thats why he went to the demonstration. He would never resist physically any kind of orders," Bisson said. "Hes a bit frail, not because of his age. He has some health problems.

(2,406 posts)And the comments are interesting.
LOTS of "Good, kill that commie" variety, but there are a few pointing out that the guy was doing nothing. One poster said the old guy reached for the cop's belt, which is why the cop pushed him, and several pointed out that the old guy had a phone in that hand.
Maybe even those assholes on FR are beginning to have doubts.

That man did nothing at all to deserve that. I hope he'll be all right. Very worrying.

Now the stormtroopers are marching in the streets in the name of Tiny Toadstool, and the freepers who aren't openly ecstatic are "quietly concerned, mumble mumble moop moop."

They've always boasted about resisting tyranny with their assault rifles. Here's tyranny from the government, and they're solidly on the side of the armed government officers against unarmed citizens.

(548 posts)I was shocked when first I saw the video of him hitting the concrete and blood almost immediately streaming from his ear. Massive concussion I feared. I thought that he was dead at that point. Glad he is not.

(54,770 posts)people who are trained to keep moving when someone goes down if on frontline, let the medics take care of it BS.
If they had been fighting to the death, I can understand that. But clearly not situation and the senior officer who made the first officer move on after stopping, is part of the problem. It did look like he might have radioed for something, but it was urgent to keep marching. I hope they investigate further.

(92,409 posts)was an error. I would characterize it as a lie
If there wasn't a camera there, I suspect they would continue saying he lied
Excellent analysis by you of the chain of command, and where the medics come into play
Thanks

(3,257 posts)It's the ones making the rules who are the problem. Not long after the Cielo Vista mawsacre a man I hadn't met before asked me if I thought the police should have killed the perp. I said no because we have a system for that. He gave me a big hug. He was retired Special Forces.
