Snoop Dogg will vote for the first time ever in 2020

'I can’t stand to see this punk in office one more year'

Snoop Dogg will cast his vote — for the first time ever — in November’s presidential election saying, “We got to make a difference.”

The 48-year-old rapper opened up on radio station Real 92.3 Thursday when asked for his thoughts on President Trump and the November election. “I aint never voted a day in my life, but this year I think I’m going to get out and vote because I can’t stand to see this punk in office one more year,” he responded.

Snoop Dogg, whose real name is Calvin Broadus, explained why he had never before exercised his right to vote: "For many years they had me brainwashed thinking that you couldn’t vote because you had a criminal record. I didn't know that. My record's been expunged so now I can vote." The rapper was convicted of felonies in 1990 and 2007.

Asked whether 2020 will be the first election in which the rapper participants, he answered, “Definitely. Because we’ve got to make a difference. I can’t talk about it and not be about it. I can’t tell you to do it and don’t go do it.”

2. 48 years old and he's never voted? Are we supposed to admire him for deciding to vote this year?

He has a fairly long criminal record, and was led to believe that took away his voting rights.

He is not a stupid man, so I am not buying that. He never even bothered to find out. No excuse.

If you don't vote you can't complain. Shame on you Snoop and shame on all of you who don't vote.

8. He thought that he was ineligible to vote due to felony convictions.

Having Pot on oneself was once a felony in California.

The issue of ex-felons knowing that they can register to vote is a real problem. Republicans try to keep them from registering and many progressive groups don't prioritize educating them on their rights.

him and feel, wrongly, that voting is a waste of time. If he gets young people like that voting in places like Texas, Florida, North Carolina, Georgia, Michigan, Ohio, he will do a world of good toward getting this country back on track toward realizing social and economic justice for all citizens, and guests.

9. Good for Snoop. I am glad he said it in public. Many will follow his lead.

And by the way - there are many that do not vote because they do not think the government or the system works for them. Maybe its time we stop chastising people and listen. Whenever I talk to people that do not vote, that is a recurring theme, and they are not wrong sadly. The system has not worked for blacks in poor neighborhoods for a long time.
