(111,277 posts)Abusive cops are just proving the point of all the unarmed people they are abusing.
Using chemical weapons against people who are simply assembling and behaving themselves is a self defeating tactic. Thug cops are going to find their jobs changing radically as time goes on.
It's time to end Nixon's attempt to turn the police into an occupying army. Nixon is dead, it's time for his evil to follow him.

(1,086 posts)But you have to realize what was happening right then.
That was the moment that the truck drove into the crowd on the bridge.
We know that it was and accident now, at the time the police had to consider that what had just happened was that someone had just driven a giant bomb into the middle of the crowd.

(1,086 posts)Somebody reacted very quickly, quite an amazing thing if you think about it. You can see in the background in that video the crowds just the fleeing the road. You can see that the people in the foreground have no idea exactly what is happening on the road.
I have been running up against the Minneapolis police for 50 years. Believe me I do not find myself often defending their actions. But I'm cutting them some slack on this.

(4,573 posts)Bob Kroll probably told them to do it. He's a Tangeranus-loving racist/fascist asshole.
And the majority of the MPD vote him in to be the head of their police union, so...

(21,491 posts)Trump-supporting supremacists that joined police forces with the intention of a race war. Trump's militarization of DC and call for support at his church photo op is a signal to these armed racists that anything goes.
Question: Is this pepper spray shot out in cannisters? If so, has anybody grabbed the cannisters and tossed them back at the cops?
Looks like protests call for special gear -- goggles to protect the eyes and gas masks or face masks with extra layers or filters. And gloves.

Nearly a year later, on July 27, 2013, it was reported that Pike had filed for workers compensation, and hoped to receive a monetary award for what he termed a "psychiatric injury" due to threats he received after his identity was made public. A settlement conference was scheduled for August 13, 2013. In October 2013 it was reported that Joel Harter, an administrative law judge for the California Division of Workers' Compensation, had approved a settlement totaling $38,056 for Pike. Apart from the settlement, Pike also retained his retirement credits earned from his employment by the University of California.
The image of John Pike using his pepper spray on the occupy demonstrators became an Internet meme.

(672 posts)Born and raised in MN but haven't lived there for 40 years and I never imagined I would be so ashamed of it. My father, who served in WW II, would have been horrified and incensed. One of my sisters married an African and they had three wonderful girls. Now one of my nieces has an amazing young son who will becoming a teenager in a few years and I worry about them all so much.

Kind of wonder the intelligence of some police officers. And their motivation. And the entry selection processes to get the job in the first place.

(14,492 posts)I still say cities should put their cops in their garbage trucks and the garbage men in patrol cars. I've known several people in both professions.
Cities would be a safer place......
