As millions of Americans return to work amid the worst economic crisis in a generation, theyre unexpectedly discovering their old positions are far more burdensome than they used to be. Their hours have been cut, their pay has been slashed and their responsibilities are now magnitudes greater. And their job security despite President Trumps recent proclamations about an economy on the mend remains anything but guaranteed.

(4,379 posts)We are at the beginning of a pandemic. We are at the beginning of an economic crisis. Many Americans do not have the patience to deal with the reality of what has happened. They want things to get back to normal and it will probably not end well.
It's going to be a rocky ride

(15,751 posts)When I think of restaurants in particular. They are labor intensive. Cooks, wait, bus, cashiers, cleaning , purchase, stock, management, accounting, security, maintenance. Many labor hours to be covered over the course of a week. Many restaurants not expected to reopen. Many reopenings may be fast food - less labor.
Many opportunities for employers to cut labor costs in many ways.

Twelve hours at 2.92 plus tips. Whooppie. His Girl Friend made 50 cents and was sent home early do to lack of customers.
