The shooter, Steven Carillo (arrested) is a sergeant in the AF. His wife Monika (also in the AF, on the electronic warfare team) was found dead in an off-base hotel a few years ago. Unclear of cause of her death, but it was under investigation at the time.

I'd cut and paste more but this is a putrid site, difficult to cut and paste for some reason. Not much to the article. Here's a little more:
Says, under investigation. Foul play not suspected at this time. (That may change).
An airman from Shaw Air Force Base was found dead in a hotel over the weekend.
The Sumter Police Department is still investigating the death of 30-year-old Airman 1st Class Monika Carrillo, who was found at an off-base hotel at about 10 p.m. Saturday night, according to a release from Shaw.

(17,122 posts)3. This San Jose Mercury News article has good information about the suspect and Monika Carillo
Apparently she killed herself, and her family blames Steven Carillo.

Thank Goodness for the anonymous, former high school wrestler, who had all sorts of maneuvers to pin down the shooter until the officers got there.
