(5,943 posts)I'd say share this far and wide. Share it especially with people who don't want to hear it. And have them google "Tulsa massacre" and "Rosewood massacre" if they're unaware what she's speaking of when she mentions those two cities.

(2,025 posts)Except when she seems to be justifying acts of destruction. I will never condone acts like that. But I totally understand her anger, and the reasons for it. I am embarrassed and ashamed to be a 70-year-old Southern white man. Which makes me angry at the same white people she's angry at. Because I just simply want everybody to be treated fairly. I think we're seeing positive social change happening now. There have been protests many times before, but what's happening now is different. It just has a different feel to it. All of human history, I think, has been a process of 1,000 steps forward, and 999 steps backward. I really do think that overall, we're seeing steps forward now. We can take a BIG step forward on Nov. 3, and even though a lot can happen in five months, I'm optimistic. But acts of violence and destruction, such as the ones she references against Target, are a step backward. I will never condone acts like that, whatever injustices might have prompted them.
