Soledad O'Brien: Happy Loving Day!... Here I am with them in 1966!

Happy Loving Day! My parents marriage was illegal in 1958 (in Maryland). The Supreme Court didn’t overturn the ban on interracial marriage til 1967. Here I am with them in 1966!

My Aunt Ruth and Uncle Trevor on their wedding day in 1962. They are still together.

Here they are 58 years later.

Miscegenation laws in 1967.

Hence, for many reasons, "Loving Day".

The USA was formed by stealing land & committing genocide/occupation of Native Americans all in the Name of God. This new country was then built by slaves & poverty waged immigrants.

Will the majority of citizens own these 2 facts? If not...

How can we begin in earnest to rip out the roots of 400 years of multi-generational racism & greed driven low wage impoverishment?

We can’t move forward without facing The Truth: USA Theocratic Elitism & it’s Sister Greed must be shunned once & forever if..

we wallow in an uncomfortable stew of fear, devision & even hate.

A door has opened.

Many imagine a better world.

A world united in peace & justice.

Facing our own Covid19 mortality risks, perhaps the doors to our hearts can finally relate......possible death now waits for all beyond our gates.

But it’s our Black Sisters & Brothers being murdered all too frequently by police!

They live in fear their entire lives

This has to stop now.

Black Lives matter.

about her grandmother, the daughter of slaves, and grandfather, the son of slave owners. Not socially acceptable at all in the 19th century.

His parents completely disowned him, but they were eventually able to find an intentional community where they were accepted.

I couldn't help being reminded of that, reading this.
