Florida stuck with nearly a million doses of Trump's favorite COVID-19 drug after hospitals won't us

https://www.rawstory.com/2020/06/florida-stuck-with-nearly-a-million-doses-of-trumps-favorite-covid-19-drug-after-hospitals-wont-use-it/

Snip

The state of Florida earlier this year went big on hydroxychloroquine, the anti-malarial drug touted by President Donald Trump as a “game changer” in treating the novel coronavirus.

However, Politico reports that Florida is now stuck with an estimated 980,000 unused doses of hydroxychloroquine after hospitals in the state have not used it to treat COVID-19 patients.

Shipments of the drug hydroxychloroquine will be making their way to Dade and Broward County hospitals to help people seriously ill with COVID-19, according to Florida’s governor. Florida’s governor Ron DeSantis announced in the opening of his Saturday coronavirus briefing that hospital systems in Dade, Broward and Hillsborough counties, plus some hospitals in Orlando will receive the drug. DeSantis said U.S. Ambassador to Israel David Friedman, “a friend of mine,” helped to get him a connection to Israeli drug company Teva Pharmaceutical Industries who has the drug.
“So we are working with Teva and we’ve arranged shipments,” DeSantis said

With continued Republican leadership and more cuts to public health initiatives, maybe malaria will be endemic in Florida again?

Who in their right mind would believe a con man like Dr. Trump and she'll out good money for his patented miracle elixir?

Government purchases have strict protocols to prevent wasting taxpayer money on these unverified quack cures. Someone tipped the scales and pushed the purchase through without following the normal procedures. An investigating should name the person in power who could order that rules should be broken.

There were shortages for awhile and patients who needed hydroxychloroquine (not for Covid-19) couldn’t get their prescriptions filled.
