1. Great article, thanks one-- excerpt:

...It’s now been about a month since Weiss got back to San Francisco. He’s glad that he went, but calls it one of the most challenging experiences of his life. And he’s vexed that so many people still aren’t taking the public health guidelines seriously.

“I’m in a dark place right now,” he told me by phone in late May. “Everyone is impatient. A lot of people are feeling done with this pandemic. They don’t understand this is how it is going to be for a while.”

Covid-19 is still a major part of the national conversation, but researchers have found growing evidence of a “pandemic fatigue.” Many people are itching for life to resume as normal after months of sheltering in place. Moreover, many states are re-opening shuttered businesses, and President Trump has stated that he’s planning to hold rallies, all which is sending a signal that the pandemic is under control.

But as of June, Covid-19 is still spreading in the United States. Arizona, Texas and Utah, among other states, are reporting an increase in diagnosed cases and hospitalizations. Epidemiologists and public health experts remain worried....

I do believe a great majority of DUers already know the reality of our current situation, but this is nevertheless a timely reminder, and is also good reading for those of us experiencing some “covid fatigue”, eh? —— yeah...we’re not quite “done” just yet...

Be well, my friend!

This important. A friend who lives here in summer showed up questioning just how unsafe it is. I gave them a mini lecture and since they were gloating about being news-free for over a week, I told them they needed to start paying attention again and catch up. They were unaware of recent findings that impact how we interact and about who is getting and dying from this... both of which are fluid for the time being.

Friday night, crowded restaurants, beer gardens, etc. No one wearing a face mask. Wake County needs to require masks; Durham and Orange counties (Chapel Hill) already do. Big spike in cases coming to NC.

They are, almost every one, horrible. And some very young, previously healthy people are going to have lung problems for life, if they live.

In total, about 40 doctors and nurses from UCSF across a variety of specialties flew out to Covid-19 hotspots, according to the chairman of medicine, Dr. Bob Wachter.

very much putting their lives on the line.

The clan is gathering, or rather, his large part of it. There's a couple of birthdays coming up, a high school graduation, and on and on. Sounds like a whole lot of fun to me, lots of grandkids and hugs, bbq, buffet, a certain amount of booze... Just a nice couple of early-summer weekends in Ventura.

We declined.

These are not stupid people, but this is stupid behavior. Writing about it now, I just want to cry.

for take out, in SW AZ, blood red and COVID-19 Central (exponential growth). Not one employee was wearing a mask. I asked the cashier whether she knew what the infection rate was in the area. Got a blank stare.

Last time I'm going there for a while (they used to wear masks).
