I'm going to tell you something this Saturday night,

As many of you know, I’m a dentist. And of all professions, we were at the beginning of this epidemic rated the most at risk of anyone in the United States of America who works for a living. Most of us followed the dicta of our state government and virtually all of us return to work as soon as we were permitted in whatever capacity we were allowed.

I’m going to tell you quite frankly that we have our own closed group websites as you can well imagine, and there is no shortage of Trump followers there. There are many Dentists and staff who still believe that this is all a hoax, that we never should’ve been shut down, that people have overreacted grossly to the situation. And like many Trump followers, they absolutely will not listen to one shred of reason at all whatsoever. It is incredibly upsetting to read healthcare Professionals post posts which are antithetical to healthcare. These people are exactly like the people you read on the former Discussionist website or a Yahoo or The shithead site that shall not be named Here. They have that same sanctimonious, creepy, might is right, close minded stupidity the permeates the Trump body politic. They don’t listen to reason, they don’t care about anyone’s plight , they are narrow and nasty revolting individuals.

Repulsive.

than their patients. One I remember with particular disgust was holding forth at the nurses' station about how in the new hospital that was being built for his specialty, nurses would be paid half as much as we were in the current hospital because we were all just a bunch of trained monkeys who couldn't do anything on our own.

Then they wondered why the only applicants they attracted were new grads, green as grass, but still not willing to accept what that blowhard said they were willing to pay.

I'm not surprised Chumps are well represented among dentists, they certainly are among doctors.

Because I sure as hell wouldn't want to go to a dentist who thought it was a hoax and didn't take any special precautions. If these dentists are poking around in the mouths of people who also thought the whole thing was a hoax it's on them if they get it, but it's on everybody else if they spread it around. That's scary.

They would be crucified buy one agency or another if they did not. The occupational safety and health administration would nail their asses for the sake of the employees, the state health department would close them down for the sake of the patient, and they will do this. In addition, Dentists and physicians, In fact anyone who’s licensed, can be reported to the licensing body of the state or Commonwealth in which they practice, and that opens a gigantic can of worms which cannot be closed.

It only takes one phone call and all hell breaks loose. I’ve told young Dentists over the years that you should never be afraid of malpractice suits because you hand the case off to your attorney or the insurance company’s attorney and you live with the consequences. They pay money if that is the nature of the settlement and you’re done. If someone calls the state board on you but you are in for 2 to 3 or four years of continuous correspondence, interviews, and possible censure Because you had a bad day or a bad moment. I have on numerous occasions in interviews for other dentists who were accused of a variety of things by their patients and the vast number were specious. That is not to say the Dentists can’t make terrible mistakes or mistreat patients or do awful things, we are legitimately known for it to be quite frank, but let me tell you it just takes one lunatic make your life impossible As a practitioner.

My friend (an employee) had already sent pictures of reused disposable needles, bloody glass ones in the drawer, a pile of wipes to be reused, urine samples stored with new appliances, and more. An inspector showed up a few months later (wearing slippers for god's sake) and about all she wanted to know was whether the dentist kept a gun in the office. She proceeded to ask the employees if there were irregularities and of course they said no, otherwise they would have been fired. And this dentist already had sanctions on him in the past! He was cited for diagnosing illnesses outside of his expertise and he is still working to this day.

He is an angry sovereign citizen.

expected of people of their socioeconomic level, by them as well as others. Take a look at the trumpster officials you see on TV, usually pleasant and appropriately behaved, even charming and likable if you didn't know what you do about them.

A more reliable way for hopefully getting a peek behind the social mask, for any of us, is to get us among others who think as we do and observe our behavior.

They may seem like nice, courteous, professional people on the outside. But then on the inside they're the exact opposite of that. All it takes is some outside exposure to show who they really are.

Much like the Joker did to Harvey Dent in the Dark Knight. All you need to drive someone to the brink of madness is a little push.

Nice people, volunteer, helpful as a rule. There are of course, the ranters (former Tea party nuts) who are mean as snakes. But many more are affable and neighborly. I haven't encountered them in the context of race since I have unearned white privilege.

Some Rs aren't as tribal as others, but since Fox is their mainstay they don't know better I suppose. But even the nice ones are proudly deplorable. They embraced the identity because they have the pride and independence of a Westerner and Texan. There's a touch of ornery with a smile and neighborliness.

I love them, they love me. We agree to disagree.

I won't use a doctor or a lawyer or an accountant that thinks what trump and the repuglicons are doing is OK.

I guess if I go to a hardware store or gas station it might be OK for the people there to have lower levels of intelligence. But I usually won't engage them in a lot of logical discussions.

Sorry to make this a class-type of argument, but people that don't understand or don't want to understand are lower class. They may have much more money than me - that doesn't count.

and normally get a prophy every 2 months because I'm trying to keep my teeth. So, my periodontist and my regular dentist are in the same building. During the stay at home days, my periodontist emailed his patients regularly with updates, closed his office before he had to by law, and has now opened with very strict guidelines and practices, which he shared via email.

I never heard from my other dentist's office until they called the other day to see if I wanted to come in for an available appointment. I didn't call back. For some reason I'm more afraid of getting coronavirus than of neglecting my teeth right now.

I like my regular dentist. I'm not trying to say they're not doing the right thing. But I'm just not ready to leave my house right now. I do appreciate the communications from my periodontist, which tells me they are taking this pandemic seriously. I don't know if the lack of communication is evidence of the opposite from my regular dentist.
