I've got an outdoor floodlight. The kind with motion & light sensors.
I was using halogens, and I was replacing both bulbs yearly, and a third.
Couldn't use CFLs because they're terrible in the winter. Takes 10-12 minutes to warm up enough to throw decent light, but the sensor shuts it off when no motion in 5. Taking the dog out in the morning; they were useless 4 months a year.
Started using LEDs. 2,400 lumens, only use 32 watts.
I put 2 in early 2015. One burnt out. Sent it back to GE. Then sent me a free 2 pack. Paid shipping both ways
The extra from the replacement set I bought & the freebies are in the garage. One is over 5 years old in outdoor use. The other around 3.

Plus the LEDs can be bought with my choice of color value. In the room that will be my needlework studio we went from warm white incandescent and CFLs to all daylight (5000k) LEDs. The paint color is the same as in the next room which still has old fluorescent fixtures but in the other room the walls look a completely different color, much yellower. In the next couple of weeks the fluorescent lamps will be converted to LEDs and I am looking forward to that.

When selecting colors for needlework or sewing, I need a good strong daylight - but our house location gets light filtered through trees for much of the day which skews the colors. I bet I will see a big difference in my color choices from now on!
