Why are people acting as though we're not in a Pandemic.

Cases are spiking in my county. No one is wearing a damn mask. What the hell is wrong with people.

So much needless death and destruction in this country caused by stupidity. Why do we continually allow the stupid to burn us all? I’m so fucking over it.

If info doesn't come from the RW echo chamber, they refuse to believe it and that chamber is vast.

That chamber's inputs are controlled entirely by big business interests (including foreign ones) and they want business reopened ASAP with safety be damned. Other issues that appear to be inputs are fake and a ruse, such as religious and veteran's concerns.

I'm guessing at least 80% of those disregarding the pandemic rules are Republicans in the U.S.A. and adherents of right-wing dogma in other parts of the world. In addition, many innocents that are poorly educated or that don't have access to good news sources have been misinformed by their plutocratic and/or fascist governments.

The Republicans, like Larry Kudlow, have openly said keeping the economy open is more important to them than saving the lives of common people. I mean if the stock market melts down again, some multi-billionaires might face the prospect of actually LOSING money! Can you imagine the horror of waking up one day worth $20 billion and waking up the next day only worth $19 billion? Surely protecting that hoard of wealth is worth the lives of thousands of peasants.

Besides, nobody important has died of Covid-19 yet, no billionaires and no important politicians, not even any A-list celebrities. How their attitudes might change if Charles Koch or one of the Trumps had to go on a ventilator.

Media full of Covid, Covid, Covid... and then something outrageous comes up in the news (who expects police officers to murder people on camera?) - there is righteous outrage and such, and we're not hearing Covid anymore. Coupled with the fact that the restrictions are being dialed back at the same time... means it is too easy to believe Covid is over. Which it's not.

Can Americans do the equivalent of chew gum and walk at the same time? Be outraged at police brutality and be mindful of Covid?

Tue Jun 16, 2020, 12:26 AM
Jun 2020

The risk associated COVID 19 is being successfully framed merely an opinions. In addition we have a 30-second attention span before we need gratification. That 30-seconds was pushed to the limit early in the pandemic by governors who actually imposed reasonable restrictions - AND - because we were sucessful in those places in flattening the curve, those inclined not to believe science were convinced there was no real threat in the first place. After 30-seconds had passed, they were dead set on restarting the economy and had to reject anything that sounded like another restriction directed to the "fake" pandemic.

While I adamately opposed DeWine backing off on imposing a mask mandate, it actually seems to be working. We are holding steady. I suggested at the time that he was operating on the philosopy that mandating mask-wearing would be impossible and that perhaps if it was not required people would do the right thing. Based on the numbers and my personal observations, it is at least not as disastrous as I expected it would be.

Some people seem to be treating it like the flu and because it's summer and everybody wants to go out and do stuff.

were very much due to the Trump administration's utter failure at every turn.

But, the reason we're leading the entire world regarding infection and death is because Americans by and large are a very selfish group of people and seemingly tend to do things that are in direct contradiction to what's good for them - even apparently during a deadly pandemic.

I think that no matter who was in office our cases would be higher than most anywhere else in the world - can you imagine right-wingers following guidelines and advice from the Obama administration?

I can't.

That now lives in Kansas and has gone full Trumper. He literally said "If some old person wants to be stupid enough to sit next to a sick person in the theater, fuck him. He can die."

That's the ignorance and attitude we are up against. The only way I see any change is maybe 5-10 million people dying.

Such as the arrogant maskless black male in the checkout line that kept backing up into my space, forcing me to retreat further and further back..

And let's not forget the white meat. A family out on bikes with helmets but no masks "but kids don't get sick" intersecting with joggers passing each other with either no masks or masks lowered, all but brushing shoulders waiting for a light to change.

If you or yours are over 50, do you ban family visits until a vaccine is found ((despite the potential good news today))?

((Sorry for the sarcasm, but those of us who live with super seniors have to be paranoid- er, neurotic- until a vaccine ((or no ventilators needed treatment)) is found.))
