More than 37,000 filed for unemployment last week in Kentucky

Unemployment claims in the Bluegrass State are dropping, but tens of thousands of Kentuckians are still seeking assistance each week in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic.
In the week ending June 13, 37,453 people in Kentucky filed for unemployment benefits, according to a weekly report released Thursday by the U.S. Department of Labor.
Thursday's numbers were a drop from those released a week ago. In the week ending June 6, 40,536 Kentucky workers submitted unemployment claims, according to Department of Labor statistics released last Thursday, meaning 3,280 fewer people filed for unemployment last week.
Across the river in Indiana, 24,952 filed claims in the week ending June 13, a jump of 2,021 after 22,931 filed for unemployment in the week ending June 6.
