Donnie and the republicans entire political philosophy is built around setting the media agenda, winning the media cycle, and controlling the narrative.
His entire campaign in 2016 centered around defining himself as someone you had to pay attention to (even if you hated what he said) and defining Hillary as nothing but emails and Benghazi.
He was able to get away with this because things were going well and the wasn't a huge amount of major news other than the campaign.
Not so this time around. With covid-19, the severe recession, the protests, there's a ton of actual news the media has to report on. Things people are more interested in than whatever crap Donnie has to say on a given day.
This really ties his hands in terms of controlling the media message. It makes it much more difficult this time to define his opponent as nothing more than a scandal.
So completely aside from the fact that he's been a disaster, he is going to have a tough time winning a propaganda campaign. For a change, he'll have a tough time grabbing all the media attention.

(3,427 posts)In order to grab more media attention, he'll have to make his lies, accusations and actions even more egregious and outrageous. I'm confident he's up to that task (and it will start with his rally in Tulsa today). His problem is, half the country no longer believes a word he says, about anything.
The only thing that might save him would be a miraculous economic recovery in the next few months, which I think is unlikely.
