3 ASU football players share story of racism at Whataburger in Tempe
By Matt Layman | June 19, 2020 at 11:04 am

Three Arizona State football players took to social media on Wednesday to outline allegations of racist conduct targeted at them at a fast food restaurant near campus.

Redshirt freshman defensive back Jordan Clark, sophomore tight end Nolan Matthews and freshman defensive back T Lee all posted on Twitter similar explanations of the story (warning: posts contain explicit language — read Clark, Matthews and Lee‘s explanations). The trio said they went to Whataburger near Rural Road and Apache Blvd., but the restaurant’s dining room was closed and was only serving the drive through lane.

According to all three social media posts, the three players didn’t have a car for the drive-through and therefore asked a woman if she could order their food for them and they would pay with their own money. She declined. The players allege that when the woman got to the window, she complained to the manager, who then gave her a meal for free. The woman shouted racial slurs at the players as she drove off, they said.

Clark said the manager threatened to call the police on the players, and that the manager accused the players of harassing people for food.

The retirement people are generally in either the west side: (Sun City, etc.) or Mesa.

Tempe is a little blue island in the Valley. Certainly, there are sure to be racists passing through, like the woman described.
Very disappointing that the manager took no action, though.

Franchise owner and his or her perspective. If your front line Employees are not screened, and you do not put systems in place to deal with this or any type of negative event, you need to loose your Franchise.

Knowing Tempe, yes it is a little Blue spot, but it is surrounded by a Religious Cult whom speak out of both Orifices.

The College A.D. should have been all over this ASAP. Hope these Three Transfer out.

Herm Edwards is a good coach and players love playing for him. He is also doing really great at recruiting especially this offseason.

I'm a season ticket holder for the Sun Devils wondering what is going to happen this season.

position. Bet the Franchise Owner is a ASU Alum.

The Alumni need to step up and call this person out and remedial action taken.

But first, DAMN, that Whataburger has been there for over 50 years. It is a quarter mile to half mile walk from dorms/apartments. So the kids likely walked down the street and just wanted a friggen burger.
