Sen. Joni Ernst (R-Iowa) has challenged her Democratic opponent Theresa Greenfield to six debates ahead of November's general election, the latest sign of what is expected to be a tight race in the Hawkeye State.
"I havent heard Theresa Greenfield say one thing that Chuck Schumer hasnt told her to say," Ernst said in a video released by her campaign on Monday. "And, thats not what Iowans expect in a leader. So Im challenging Ms. Greenfield to six debates."
Ernst proposed splitting up the debates by holding two in August, two in September and two in October.
"Lets let Iowans hear what we have to say," Ernst said.
The Hill has reached out to Greenfield's campaign for comment.
The development comes as Ernst faces a difficult reelection fight. A Des Moines Register-Mediacom Iowa survey showed the incumbent senator trailing Greenfield by three points, with 46 percent of likely voters saying they would back Greenfield, while 43 percent said they would support Ernst.

(40,224 posts)is really rich.
What is it about republicans and projection?
Ernst never has an original thought and parrots whatever lines she is feed by McConnell and Grassley.
Ernst is a vapid dumbass.

(22,913 posts)It is really unusual for an incumbent to want that many debates. Hmmm n/t

(4,245 posts)Put together a Venn diagram for Ernst and McTurtle. Should be enlightening.

(945 posts)like...two of them citing social distancing concerns and a desire to "increase testing for hardworking Iowans." Yea, use Ernt's wacky rhetoric against.
DEMS should continue to coast and be lowkey until otherwise needed. Repugs are making our advertisements for us. We should've thought about this earlier.

(6,477 posts)Sounds like Ernst wants multiple opportunities to pretend she's not just a rubber stamp for Donald John Trump.

(8,929 posts)many times she has sided with the moron who started the trade war that's killing their farmers, and never ended it. And ask her when the subsidies the tax payers are funding to pay for that trade war are going to end on the tax payers. And ask when the import taxes the consumers are paying for Chinese goods are going to end.
Ask what she is going to do to bring it all to a merciful end.

(54,445 posts)Greenfield shouldn't give her too many chances. Ernst hasn't had an original thought since she left the pig farm, so whatever she can manage to memorize now, she's getting it from McTurtle.

(1,184 posts)There's a line between robust debate and something that the public has no appetite for.
I remember in 2008 when McCain challenged Obama to, I believe it was, 10 "Lincoln-Douglas Style" debates. It was widely seen as a gimmick.
In the modern media age where millions of people have access to the same content, 10 debates can't do what two or three can.
