It was meant to be a financial booster shot, a way to help hospitals and health care systems survive the economic onslaught that COVID-19 brought.
But a new report analyzing how federal coronavirus relief money was distributed shows stark disparities in which states got the biggest portions of $175 billion in aid from the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act.
Hospitals in the states hardest hit by the virus in March and April New York, New Jersey, Michigan, Massachusetts, and Pennsylvania got the least amount of federal support per patient, according to a 17-page report released Tuesday by U.S. Sen. Gary Peters, a Michigan Democrat and ranking member of the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee.
States with the fewest cases got the most federal aid per confirmed case of COVID-19.
Michigan got almost $130,000 less per patient than the national average, according to the report, which analyzed CARES Act funds and coronavirus case counts as of April 10.
While the national average in federal assistance per patient was $160,286, Michigans allotment was just $31,045 per patient.

You can not give ANYTHING to this criminal cabul! NOTHING!
No matter how much Moscow Mitch and Steve "please punch me in my smirking face" Mnuchin tells you how "bipartisan" their intentions are.
There should not be one more fucking taxpayer dollar given to these pricks by any type of "compromise" legislation. NOT ONE FUCKING DIME!!!!
The only way I would do it is with a joint account that requires the signature of the Speaker of the House to countersign any expenditure.
If they don't agree with those terms, you just tell them to come back and see you when the Dow hits 1000.

(36,898 posts)7. Apparently, the distribution of funds was based on 2019 Medicare fee-for-service reimbursements:
10Figure 3. Data fromHHSB.Initial Distribution Did Not Account for COVID-19 Cases and Greatest Need In addition to the initial delays and confusion, the first $30 billion tranche of emergency financial relief to hospitals was based upon 2019 Medicare fee-for-service reimbursements. This formula did not factor in whether a medical facility was in a hot spot area for COVID-19 and also excluded many rural hospitals.32As a result, the first general distribution payments contained massive inequities. Areas hit hardest by the virus and in greatest need of funding to stabilize their finances received many times less per COVID-19 patient than others.
It is a completely incompetent administration. New Jersey received $16,843 per patient, while North Dakota received $327,570.
