Give my friends and neighbors with brown skin the benefit of the doubt that they are Americans, which they are.
Work to make voting, the cornerstone of any democracy, a free and easy process for every citizen, even those with less money, less time, no car, or no picture ID.
Stand up for my gay friends and relatives' right to all of the freedoms I enjoy, including marriage.
Declare that the government has no place telling my wife and mother what to do with their own bodies.
Your attempt to earn my vote by demonizing and attacking anyone who is not like me assumes that since I am white, straight and male, I must therefore be a willfully ignorant bigot. You insult me just as sure as you insult all of those who are different from me.

I generally give them just enough rope, then hang them with it.

(27,985 posts)and while he sees himself as a straight white man, he's actually a quarter Hispanic and has long curly hair so there is no way that people see him as Mr. Middle Class. And straight? Yeah, heterosexual, but no way, no how, straight (as in vanilla).
I think it's interesting that I get to see how he describes himself and how I see him and how much they diverge. I think though, he was just being a good writer and leaving the caveats out. I'm the caveat queen. That's why he's the better writer.
