(4,572 posts)It is common, for example in sports, to speak of a "capacity crowd," meaning 100% full.

(34,857 posts)0% capacity would mean there's 100% open beds.

(9,952 posts)bed is at 83% capacity they are saying it is almost full. I saw one and then went in to read to figure it out and the article said plenty of beds, but really, they were filling up. I assumed it meant like 17% were occupied.

(12,631 posts)AT capacity means it has reached the limit of its ability to contain, that is, its full. You need the AT to convey fullness. Otherwise it just means ability to contain.

(34,857 posts)Max capacity means you've reached capacity. 100% capacity is just another way of saying max capacity.
Let me put it into sports terms. If an arena seats 20,000 fans and 17,000 fans show, that arena is at 85% capacity.
100% capacity would be 20,000 fans.

(83,771 posts)They are full, have been since the beginning.
This is not a large hospital. Since the beginning no PPE only raincoats worn backwards. Capacity to ICU alone is 15 beds. The turnover frees up beds. The hospital has had to rent more morgue space.

(41,984 posts)The article states that 83% of icu beds in AZ are currently being occupied by non Covid, and the system will not be able to handle the number of Covid patients they are expected to receive.

(12,631 posts)It needs prepositions to be used correctly: eg. The hospital is AT 85% OF capacity. Without the prepositions it loses its meaning, and I have noticed that happening lately.
