Whats At Risk: An 18-Month View of a Post-COVID World
June 24, 2020, By Iman Ghosh
As the world continues to grapple with the effects of COVID-19, no part of society seems to be left unscathed. Fears are surmounting around the economys health, and dramatic changes in life as we know it are also underway.
In todays graphic, we use data from a World Economic Forum survey of 347 risk analysts on how they rank the likelihood of major risks we face in the aftermath of the pandemic.
What are the most likely risks for the world over the next year and a half?
'RISK'...I used to like that game...

(46,116 posts)Less people will utilize the Judiciary, the court system.
First, with enough people owning guns and not trusting their local police (or their government) to protect them from others who either scare them or over whom they want superior treatment, will become vigilantes. Self-automated "justice." Maybe even militias to take over the "security" of their streets, their provinces, their towns, etc. We've seen hints of this already.
Second, if the economy can't return where even the minimum wages can't allow survival (housing, food, medicine, education, etc.), then this may force extremism. For example, instead of seeking divorces, spousal murder becomes more prevalent. (In jest, this is called a "Virginia Divorce".) A contract or an agreement goes south, a visit with a weapon might resolve the issue better than Small Claims Court. Someone spoke poorly of you, truth or lie, and instead of seeking redress in civil court, you go visiting them, again, with a weapon.
As an attorney, the courts may not be perfect, but they do hold the semblance of civil society where disputes can be addressed and redressed through a third party as an institution. If citizens can't afford a lawyer and lack the elementary skills to represent themselves in court, I know some will forget about their problems and move on. It's the others I worry about.

(46,116 posts)During her livestream broadcast yesterday, QAnon conspiracy theorist and failed congressional candidate DeAnna Lorraine urged conservatives to form militias around the country so that they will be ready when they finally receive the green light to grab their guns and take back the streets.
I think a lot of us are waiting for a green light where someonewhether it be President Trump or someone elsesays, OK, everyone grab your guns, you go here, you go there, you go there, and lets organize and fight back,' Lorraine said. Its not necessarily so realistic for Trump to just shout that out on Twitter. That would be kind of a precarious position for him to put himself in, if he literally says those words and gives that green light that were all waiting for. So, I believe that this is the time for us to stand up and get organized in small or large groups, city by city, and start taking back our cities.
