https://www.tennessean.com/story/entertainment/music/2020/06/25/dixie-chicks-change-name-the-chicks/3257297001/"The Dixie Chicks are now known as The Chicks.
The country trio changed its social media handles, and their official website now redirects to thechicks.com.
"We want to meet this moment," reads a message posted on the site, signed by members Martie Maguire, Natalie Maines and Emily Strayer. They've also released a new song, "March March," with a video filled with footage of protests through the ages, and listing the names of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor and dozens more.
The move follows fellow country trio Lady Antebellum's decision to change their name to Lady A, renouncing the term used particularly to describe existing before the American Civil War, and "associations that weigh down this word," including ties to slavery. "

I think they didn't want to be known as "Yet Another Ohio State University".

(28,476 posts)The imagery is marvelously intersectional and comprehensive, but what ALL the images suggest is not "an army of one" but a collective of many. So that's a big disconnect for me.
ONTH, I do like that they've co-opted the Army's stupidest ad slogan. I mean, who the fuck wants to go to war with a unit comprised of a bunch of Armies of one? If I was going into battle, I'd want my unit to be a collective, not everyone doing their own rogue thing.

(36,854 posts)part of something bigger. To believe that your individual voice matters in the grand scheme of things... and that, sometimes, it takes an individual voice to be that spark that creates a movement. At least that is what I got out of it.

(8,051 posts)The names at the end is when I started tearing up.... Was Emmet Till's name on there? I don't think I saw it. I watched a documentary last week (YouTube) on him and more details of what happened. I encourage folks to watch it....I don't want people to forget about Emmet Till..

(16,733 posts)illegal, immoral war against a country that didn't attack us. And very talented. "Not ready to make nice" was a very powerful response to that abuse.
