I keep seeing news reports about people losing their jobs after making racist comments. Even some public officials and upper level executives have been fired or forced to resign.
It looks to me like these people are upset and angry about recent trends in society, and this anger led to their racist outbursts.
Some things that could have made them angry include:
-- the widespread public support for the BLM demonstrations.
-- the destruction of confederate monuments.
-- large-scale criticism of the methods and actions of the police.
-- decisions by organizations like NASCAR to prohibit displays of confederate symbols.
-- recent court decisions that favor progressive policies.
-- the upsurge in covid-19 infections in red states.
-- news media starting to give more coverage to trump's failures.
But let them be angry. In fact, as far as I'm concerned, the angrier they are, the better.

(12,286 posts)In their minds trump gets away with it so they should be able to as well.
They don't understand that rules apply to them, even if trump seemingly gets away with it.
What they don't realize is that he too will be fired this November.

And they are paying a price, which is exactly the way that it should work.

(7,850 posts)"drunk talk is sober thought".. they're "drunk" with racist hate and that little filter in their bigoted heads, the one that stops them from spewing their hate out loud, disappeared when trump brought hate out of the shadows and into the White House..their hate-genie is out of the bottle and they're being held accountable...good

(32,626 posts)this anger doesn't brew overnight. These people have had a chip on their shoulder for a long time, but they've gotten permission to rant and rage against those they've been taught are their enemy. Fox news has raised a whole generation of them.

(58,656 posts)By that I mean that anger is always based on something else; usually fear, often resentment or humiliation. People are never "just angry" they are always angry about something. They often will not know exactly why they are angry because it is often buried beneath layers of denial about what they are really feeling.
People don't "get over" their anger until they understand honestly what they are angry about. All too often, it is just about a loss of perceived privilege that is mistaken for an imagined "right" to something.
Unfortunately, angry people cannot generally be reasoned with. Their anger, and their denial of the reasons for it, are usually not based on anything logical, so they will resist rational objections.

(38,958 posts)Folks have been angry for a very long time and as you point out it they often do not know why. I believe most of the anger stems from economics or doing more and more with less and less. The 1% have however been able to use media platforms of various types to sow well packaged decisiveness so that the white working classes look at people of color, immigrates, etc as enemies and laugh all the way to the bank while we are fighting for the scraps they throw our way.

(3,706 posts)Now the anti-PC (not polite company) people are experiencing the freedom we all have to laugh in their faces (from behind our masks) as we shout down, shun, pity, scorn and fire them for being too PC (psychotically confused).
The objective world is not what we see (know), as mirages, rainbows and optical illusions show.
We do not see the water and air. We confuse the fore and back grounds and ignore the limitations of point-of-view.
Our subjectivity colors, paints over reality to present an imagery that is essentially imaginary.
Schrödinger's coiled hose by the house is a snake in the grass until the fog of subjectivity is subsumed in the sunshine of objective truth.

(41,132 posts)were also angry and desperate, about heavy reparations owed by harsh terms imposed on them by the war. It contributed to mass inflation and extreme hardship.
Then in 1929 there was the crushing Wall Street Crash, which by 1931 was causing major unemployment and misery in Germany and the growth of far right fascist elements there and in Italy, France, Britain and even the U.S.
The two countries hit hardest by the Great Depression (1929-1940) were America and Germany.
With the help of powerful industrialist interests who feared rising worker resentment and Communism in Russia, Hitler was made Chancellor on Jan. 30, 1933. Not long after we got the 2nd world war.
Similar to now, it was Jews, then other groups who were targeted and scapegoated as the source of all the problems with their 'lust for money,' 'pro leftist radicalism,' and degeneracy as 'untermenschen,' undesirables. A tragic and successful distraction from the real source of the economic ills of the time.
Thank god we got FDR, inaugurated president on March 4, 1933.
The echoes today of much of this are terrifying,

(6,395 posts)...a youtube video from a "tax protester" web site. He does have two accounts, one for the mortgage business he's in and then one for personal...where he happens to have a lot of his customers and often advertises his services.
He's slitting his own throat.
Normally he keeps a sound head and doesn't involve business with his personal views. But when he panics (part of his pay is commission based), he starts grappling for something to divert...but doesn't realize, its not going to solve his problem. Sooner or later, one of his customers is going to report him...and he'll be out of a job.
