I have paid millions of dollars in income taxes over my working career. Worked my ass off and am fortunate to be in a position where I think I can get by returning 7 years early. So I took the plunge earlier this year. I would not have done that if Bush were still President and I wouldn't have done it if I expected that Romney would be taking over. In fact, I waited until I saw the SCOTUS ruling on the ACA because I have to go 7 years with my own insurance before I can start receiving the Medicare benefits I have paid for my whole working life.

At this point I have no salary income, but I do have some investments. These investments are in tax-deferred accounts. Obviously my goal is to minimize the amount of that tax-deferred money I have to tap into. With any luck, I won't have to draw enough to reach the threshold for Federal income tax.

Of course I will still be paying plenty of property tax, sales tax, fuel tax etc.

I don't believe I am a shiftless freeloader, but I guess Romney has another view on that.

P.S. MY retirement opened up an opportunity for a young guy to have a good position. I thought I was actually doing a good thing, but I guess I'm just lazy.
