In 2017, a federal judge sentenced Officer Marco Proano to five years in prison for opening fire on a stolen Toyota Avalon full of teenagers in December 2013, wounding two. And a state court judge sentenced Officer Jason Van Dyke in 2019 to nearly seven years in prison for the October 2014 killing of Laquan McDonald.

(38,449 posts)different court systems and different governmental systems..For example, there are Cook County Courts in Illinois, as well as Federal Courts in Illinois. Different states, have different rules on courts. Some states mandate ..City Courts......others only State Courts.
.....I really don't know the entire system across the country, but it seems like it really sucks.. And each state has a different system..So, Florida has rules that are different from New York State.. Sometimes the same law broken in different states results in different sentences............
Let's hear from a lawyer. Maybe one of our lawyers will step up..Thanks for reading this. Hard to believe..

Story about police corruption is not new..
....The story is the same, the actors and events are different...... Every few years there is another story about this problem....One advance in catching bad cops is the cameras that are on the cop's clothing and in the police vehicles. These cameras have caught a lot of bad guys as well as bad cops...Sometimes the people walking around have cameras too. We saw that last month with a cop knelling on someone who was killed.
...That cop was Derek Chauvin, who was the officer charged with killing George Floyd. That happened on.. May 25, 2020.
