So, anyone who has ever done the following or participated in the following, falls into Mitt Romney's "47 percent" category:
--People who have used the Medicaid System
--Senior Citizens who have ever used the Medicare System
--Senior Citizens who receive Social Security benefits
--Young people who have taken out a student loan to get an undergraduate degree
--College students who have received a Pell Grant
--Lawyers, Doctors and post-grad students who have taken out student loans
--Veterans who have received Veteran's benefits
--Unemployed workers who have ever received an unemployment check
--People who have been on welfare
--People who have received food stamps
--Natural Disaster victims who have ever received support from FEMA
--Widows have have collected Social Security benefits after losing a spouse
--Farmers who have accepted subsidies for growing food
--Scientists and Researchers who accept government research grants
--Parents who have enrolled their children in Head Start
How many people can say that they haven't ever or don't currently fall into one of those categories? It's much higher than Mitt Romney's "47 percent" for sure!
The truth is--it's probably closer to 90 percent of Americans--who have used government services like these before. Not 47 percent.
Mr Romney: We are not leeches. We are not lazy. We are not dependent. And we do "care about our lives."
You are blinded by your contempt for anyone who has ever used or benefitted from programs and assistance.
The only people who haven't needed these government services--are outrageously wealthy and those who have access to an endless supply of money--much like yourself. There's nothing wrong with being wealthy Mr. Romney. However, Warren Buffet is wealthy and he isn't a callous jerk. There's no excuse for your arrogance and your disdain for good and decent hardworking people--who just happen to benefit from good government.
You don't get America, Mr. Romney. You may not care about this "47 percent" which, according to your definitions--really is about 90 percent of the country--but after your remarks I don't think most of the country really cares (or relates to you) either.

Mitt's Olympics getting a bailout.
Big banks getting bailouts.
Legislators getting salaries and health insurance.
And so on . . .

(24,411 posts)When the lower 99 percent benefits from government--were idiots who are dependent on government who also don't "care about their lives."
When the 1 percent gets bailed out or gets special tax breaks or benefits from loopholes--no judgements are passed.
Mitt asserts that those who pay lower taxes are leeches, but many multinational conglomerates, such as GE--pay NO taxes. What the hell does he say about that? Nothing.

(24,411 posts)that people get on these lists and then move off of these lists.
Everyone needs a little help now and again.
Romney was insulting anyone who had ever benefitted from government programs. He was doing what Republicans usually do--demonizing those who benefit from government programs--or want to live in a society that has these programs for people who need them.
In reality--most people have needed some of these things at least one time or another. That doesn't mean that those people are lazy or stupid.

(24,411 posts)...was said--about 47 percent of people who will vote for Obama "no matter what." That's the first sentence he used to describe the people he "didn't care about."
Then, he went on to describe this 47 percent--and how many don't pay taxes, and most are dependent on government and think that they're entitled to government services.
I'll have to check the quote again!

(24,411 posts)haha!
Yes, most people have used or benefitted from government services. Or they have a mother, father, sister or friend who has.
When Mitt insulted people who benefit from government programs--by insisting that we feel "entitled" he was really insulting anyone who had EVER benefitted from government services.
So, anyone who has needed a student loan to pay for college--is bad. Anyone farmer who gets subsidies for having windmills on his land--is bad.
His remarks really put a fine point on how the arch-convervatives feel about government programs. They're just like Norquist. They have contempt for anyone in need and they want to drown government in a bathtub.

(4,854 posts)Those zillions upon zillions go disproportionally to the 1%. ADM shareholders make out like bandits on farm subsidies. Banking shareholders make out damn good making all those student loans. They've line their wallets through the military industrial complex, building roads and bridges, keeping and maintaining food and energy production. War.
Not to mention the fact they couldn't get their shit here from the slave labor on the other side of the world if we weren't spending zillions in cash to keep the shipping lanes, railroads and highways safe.
If the entire 99% were on the government dole for every need known to mankind it would not hold one candle to the luxuries the richest of the rich have thanks to the government dole.
This is why government spending raises exponentially now that the US government is a wholly owned subsidiary of the 1%.
