(34,101 posts)The disclosure was not limited to POC, but included gender as well It did not include LGBT individuals. So yes, itis notable.
If it had only included POC stats, I would not have said anything. But the focus of the disclosure was broader than POC.

(10,584 posts)As a member of the LGBTQ community Id like too see a complete report - not just gender and POC.

(9,460 posts)I have a relative who is lesbian and another relative who is a transgender. So I am sensitive to these issues from that perspective. I just don't believe they would feel their sexuality should be a consideration for employment. This is a personal issue for them and they have their right to privacy when it comes to such matters. It has nothing to do with their ability to do a job. That being said, I do realize that others in their situations feel differently and would like to be heard and perhaps even educate people. I respect that as well.
But I think it should be up to the individual as to whether they want to make their sexuality public or not.

(34,101 posts)People/entities who care about diversity make an effort to find (and count) diversity in a number of categories.
For example, in the application we use for law school, we ask about race, gender identity or presentation, sexual orientation, and preferred pronouns. None are required, but intentionally creating diverse community/employee group means not inadvertently surrounding ourselves by people who look like us becasue that's who we are most comfortable hanging out with. Particularly with categories that are not obvious, that means creating an atmosphere that invites people to share such information and expressly valuing diversity. Otherwise it's too easy to end up with an all cis-white-straight male group of employees. A first step to inviting and expressing how highly you value diversity is to share such information, including LGBT representation, publically. Kudos for sharing race and gender - but why the silence on LGBT representation?
