What "helping people take personal responsibility" really means in these times

It means that when we cut programs that help the those in poverty and those in need that a conservative Christian candidate is telling us a rationalization designed to overcome the pangs of conscience most people, regardless of their belief, would have about abandoning the less fortunate or allowing their circumstances to deteriorate that further.

That's the irony. The most conservative Christian politicians in our country have worked tirelessly over a couple decades to work against the idea that we help each other and help those in need, instead trumpeting the ironic message (considering the source) that we're all better off looking out for ourselves and being selfish, if you will, instead.

And furthermore, whereas many evangelical conservatives a couple of decades ago opposed cuts to welfare because they thought it would lead to more abortions, they abandoned that and now support the most draconian cuts to programs and support to poor women and their children --even though that probably does lead to more abortions --as does opposing birth control. Or without access to either, children with miserable circumstances to grow up in, through no fault of their own --punished if you will, to prove a political point.

That today in 2012, the most vocally Christian candidates in our nation are generally the ones campaigning on the messages most opposed to their claimed leader (Jesus) and that Atheists and beleaguered and outnumbered liberal Christians (the ones apparently taking the most liberties with Christian doctrine) are the ones imploring us to take care of each other and the poor is a cruel irony to me.

And years of being surrounded by it at church has poisoned my church experience so badly that I finally stopped going in order to stop hearing and remembering it.

Our long term financial situation is a mess and it's obvious there are only going to be more cuts.

Better to be prepared than side swiped, but most have no idea what the situation is.

5. The CORRECT way to deal with America's long term financial problems

is to take these rich whiner cry-babies out to the woodshed for a couple of decades. They will be a lot more receptive to a 35 or 40 percent top tax rate AFTER they have been paying 50% or so for 15 years. (And as an aside, I would think even the credible Legislative THREAT of such a number would get them to the table.)
The Fuckers.

A fully disabled person maxes their use of services and saves every extra penny in cash.

9. Mormons are not Christians; multiple gods, e.g., are anathema to Christianity.

Mormons do not believe in the Trinity. They do not believe that God always was, but that He was JUST LIKE THEY ARE. Moreover, Mormons believe their men will, if they behave right, BECOME gods.

But their primary belief, which is the pertinent one here, is that fortune follows God's favor; thus, the wealthy are BLESSED.

That is why the CoLDS owns tons of businesses, to which tithes are given. THAT is their concept of "charity."

However, how Evangelical Christians can be Republican has always baffled me, with a late F-i-L who was an E.C. minister, a B-i-L who still is one, and another B-i-L who thinks and votes similarly.

But Protestants do not believe that one's faith is tied to "good works," as Roman Catholics do. That is why Paul Ryan is the most hypocritical of the current bunch, and probably why he's also the biggest liar regarding his politics.
