CDC says U.S. has 'way too much virus' to control pandemic as cases surge across

HEALTH AND SCIENCE
CDC says U.S. has ‘way too much virus’ to control pandemic as cases surge across country

The coronavirus is spreading too rapidly and too broadly for the U.S. to bring it under control, Dr. Anne Schuchat, principal deputy director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, said Monday.

The U.S. has set records for daily new infections in recent days as outbreaks surge mostly across the South and West. The recent spike in new cases has outpaced daily infections in April when the virus rocked Washington state and the northeast, and when public officials thought the outbreak was hitting its peak in the U.S.

“We’re not in the situation of New Zealand or Singapore or Korea where a new case is rapidly identified and all the contacts are traced and people are isolated who are sick and people who are exposed are quarantined and they can keep things under control,” she said in an interview with The Journal of the American Medical Association’s Dr. Howard Bauchner. “We have way too much virus across the country for that right now, so it’s very discouraging.”

his AR-15 laying across his chest in his hospital bed. A Nurse pull back his respirator mask that he signaled with his eyes that he wanted off. He gasps for air and in one mighty effort yells "freeeduummm!", then his arms drop limp beside the hospital bed as the Nurse pull a sheet over his head.

Actually, righties are not nearly that pain tolerant, he actually would be whimpering like a baby, signaling to the Nurse, with his eyes, to increase respirator pressure. But his buddies will believe that his end came the former way above.

And Dallas is caught short with testing and tracking-- same thing. Like in Jaws, they just gambled that it would go away.

It may seem like a victory for Putin, but longterm it will be to the Left's advantage, split the country in two, with a north to south line somewhere west of the Mississippi being the dividing line. The Left takes either side, the right the other. People like Never Trumpers that can't stay with the right part accept that their long desired image of America is dead. The two new countries maintain a mutual defense for 3 decades, then go their own way. People will be paid to move to their desired half, businesses and homes also purchased at fair market. Children under 18 will get one chance before 25 years old to re-choose the part they want to live in.

RIGHT -- at this point, the only line of the defense is to get the infected and asymptomatic off the streets and into proper quarantining.

because we have a fucking narcissistic psychopath in the white house and a bunch of pathetic ass-kissing toadies in the senate who refuse to check his idiocy.

This has gone beyond 'high crimes and misdemeanors'.

HOWEVER.

If right now the federal government stepped up and guaranteed every worker basic income support, declared emergencies in every hotspot region taking the heat off of state governments both financially and politically, mandated and funded test trace and quarantine processes, mask and social distancing regulations - all using emergency power acts long in place alongside the executive orders lil donnie is so fond of, well shit, we still could save tens of thousands of lives.

WE WONT DO THAT,

Probably a department head at a big well known university, well paid adviser to a big drug company. She is in her job because she wants to help protect the country, not for economic gain, that reality is something that Trump is alien to.

Isolating myself, staying in my house and yard, not going anywhere I don't have to go (and definitely not bars, restaurants, concerts, movies or church), seldom seeing anybody, getting stuff delivered as much as possible, wearing a mask when out, and washing my hands like the offspring of Howard Hughes and Lady Macbeth. I already figured this would be my life for the rest of the year or longer, and so it will be. It's just that the whole country os basically fucked and it didn't have to be this way. What will we have a year from now?

my life since early March.

Recent happy highlights:

One evening last week dinner outdoors with daughter and granddaughter to celebrate granddaughters birthday. Lots of wipes and sanitizer. No hugs.

This morning I finally had my car smogged. Have been illegal since April!

One of the few plusses - closer observation and enjoyment of the wild life in my backyard.

Keep well....

I have been already isolated last fall and winter with two strong viruses (Not COVID) for about a total of three months. Then came the COVID isolation since March 7th. We were planning one possible visit to our daughter and granddaughter who starts school mid August an 8 hour drive from here but we had to cancel because COVID is moving so quickly and our daughter’s bubble got bigger. She is a doctor and another doctor and his family are in her bubble, then they just got a cleaning lady and the nanny and we would have to stay at a B and B. Too many contacts for us to feel comfortable. Maybe we can see them next year after school is out.....very very sad today about this. And even sadder for the horrors we are about to witness as the COVID rages. I have wanted to immigrate for many decades, why am I still here?

This can't be handled by a state by state method. We need a national policy, testing and contact
tracings, masks, social distancing, science, the development of medicines for treatments, and hopefully
a vaccine someday.

Unfortunately I am being proven right. The Northeast is successfully containing the virus. We made the sacrifices and took the threat seriously. We cannot allow these gains to be lost because other states were irresponsible. We need to do a New Zealand and seal the Northeast off from the rest of the country to protect it. As other states get a handle on this they will be forced to do the same to protect the progress they have made. This is the end result of Chump’s federalist chaotic approach. It is every state for itself.
