Last one was the middle of March. I will find out what their procedures are when I get there. This is Florida. I think the barbers are required to wear at least a mask. Maybe gloves and a smock? I don't know what is required of the customer but I will wear a mask. Anyone here have any experience with barbers lately?

(3,632 posts)I was going to go last weekend, but, I had to take my mom to a doctor appointment today, so it seemed like an unnecessary risk. But, it is on my schedule for this coming weekend. I am shaggy and cranky, and I hope to alleviate one (or perhaps both) of those conditions with a nice sheering.

(25,939 posts)Hairdresser wore a mask and so did I. Removed straps from around ears for fine detailing. It was well overdue, as I was starting to resemble this guy.

(9,893 posts)yesterday. Not a pleasant experience, but it had to be done. I had to wear a mask, she had to wear a mask. Lots of hand sanitizer around. Can only have 50% occupancy. They were cleaning a lot. They have an area set up outside where you can sit while your color is processing so you can take your mask off. They won't blow dry your hair because they are afraid it will blow virus around. That didn't concern me much, I was just as happy to be done sooner.

(23,102 posts)I called when I got there and stayed in my car.
They called me when the room was disinfected & I could come in
When I came in they squirted some hand sanitizer in my hand
Masks and gloves were worn by all stylists and masks required for customers, even those getting color
They only allow 1 customer per room so plenty of social distance (over 10 ft)
They take your temperature and ask the screening questions before you can come in
They disinfect the area after the customer has left before the next one is allowed in
At the time they were giving out masks if people forgot, but they weren't optional. If you declined, you were told to leave.
Yesterday at Walgreens, they were also enforcing the new mask requirement here in Jax, I was very glad to see.

(12,051 posts)unable to manage their space so that distancing was achieved. It didn't help that two (white, older, did I have to add that) men walked around like they owned the place. I was done and leaving the shop and could hardly get past the assholes.

(23,102 posts)I know the hairdresser well and her daughter is diabetic and I know she's serious about health and not some ignorant trumper so I trusted her to keep me safe. I was still really nervous, but they don't take walk-ins (never have) and they were serious about distancing so never had anyone other than Candy within 10 ft of me.
Anyplace you go here is a risk because of stupid trumpers. I did see one catch a clue yesterday (I hope) when she approached an elderly man with a cane & wearing a mask to complain about masks being required and he jumped back & almost fell since she was walking right towards him & not stopping. She had such a shocked look on his face when she realized she could be endangering him by getting too close and he was actually in fear of her. She jumped back and kept apologizing, but the guy just shook his head and walked in. I hope she now gets it & will wear a mask because fragile at risk people are everywhere.

(5,324 posts)I cut my hair myself using mirrors, and it looks like crap, but I seldom go out. And when I do I wear a (blue) baseball cap so I don't care. It would probably look better if I lived with someone else who could have cut it for me.

(18,656 posts)Though I am in Minnesota.
-waited outside to be called in after they finished sanitizing the station and chair
-all workers have masks/gloves
-gloves are disposed between customers
-customers wear masks 100% of the time during the haircut
-when they needed to cut around the mask, they had me remove the loop from my ear and hold the mask in place
Essentially the process almost felt medical as they wear taking every precaution seriously. It took a little longer than normal but I felt there was no risk of infection.

(2,193 posts)And the hairdresser has a fever as of yesterday.
So now everybody is on super lockdown, having to wait for symptoms, and tests, and test results.
And I won't see her for a couple days-- We are newlyweds, two hours apart.
Was it worth it? A haircut? Fuck no.
I have been cutting my own since early March and she's going to let me cut hers for the duration, from now on.
Think it over.
You're not just interacting with your barber, you're interacting with everyone in their household and every one of their friends and their households.

(13,588 posts)them trim it up and go with the long hair. I lost a lot of weight and have been working out. I'm looking a lot like I did when I graduated from high school in 1979. One of the women I went to school with thinks so too. I'm single and she's a definite prospect.

(12,165 posts)And this week were contacted to say that the hairdresser tested positive for COVID-19. They're in quarantine now for the next two weeks, and advised to get tested if symptoms appear.
I would skip the haircut and order some clippers or something. My husband cut my hair with our dog grooming clippers and I think he did a nice job. It's not worth the risk to go out and sit in a chair with someone breathing all over you.

(17,441 posts)You can get some clippers off Amazon. I do my own, and it comes out great.
Please don't risk going to a barber.

(15,805 posts)going out and being in direct contact with anyone. I ordered a hair clipper yesterday that has many different combs to adjust the cutting length.
My hair is generally short, a no fuss pixie style, but after several months it's grown out and always falling in my face. I thought the electric clippers should be a doable option to getting a short haircut, even at the risk of looking a bit masculine if I cut it too short. We'll see.
Since I'm staying home by choice, I guess my stylish look aren't high up on my health checklist. That's OK, I'll survive although my kitties might be shocked by my new DIY hairstyle. When I got my dog groomed by a good friend who came and picked her up, the cats were very suspicious of her return when her long coat was gone and she looked like a stranger to them.

Not in any way going into that kind of possible infection situation.

(43,182 posts)Right now my hair resembles 1980s Wayne Gretzky. It's an odd feeling, because I've never had long hair before and I don't know what to make of it.
My wife has been pushing me to get a cut.
Problem is, when you're in a state where the virus rates are skyrocketing like never before, it just seems like the very worst time.
And all of this is compounded by the fact that I've used the same woman to cut my hair for the past eight years. She does a great job and I love her dearly...however, because she is friends with me on Facebook, I got to see that she spent the recent weekend at a house party where there was clearly very little attempt of social distancing going on.
So I will simply continue forward in this crazy personal long haired journey of mine, deep into the heart of darkness.
