It is unbelievable that people are divided over basic health precautions because the child in the White House doesnt want to wear a mask.

(14,857 posts)The people who refuse to wear a face mask are stupid. They wouldn't be any less stupid if we had a different president. If a President Hillary Clinton advised wearing masks, I think it's a safe bet that they would do the exact opposite, just out of spite.

(82,849 posts)If Obama was still president, he would surely have shown the leadership and discipline required to stop or at least slow down the spread of the virus. He would have taken it seriously from the start, like he did with the Ebola virus.
But there would still have been some cockamamie nontroversy over wearing face masks from the same lunkheads who brought us Jade Helm, the tan suit, and Obama's student address.

And if FOX News and other right-wing sources hadn't made it a health versus economics issue, as if they're not related, that would've helped a lot too.
I sometimes wonder what would've happened if the virus WAS created in a Chinese lab? My guess is that more Republicans would've wore masks in that situation because it would be viewed more as an attack by others rather than something "natural" to be accepted as an act of God, or whatever.

(12,712 posts)The Americans that wear masks in public and practice social distance are participating in a patriotic honor system that benefits us all.
Those who resort to obscene facial nudity in public places during a major, deadly pandemic are demonstration that they are really not at all patriotic and have no honor to speak of. They just gloss it over with excuses.
It is as good as wearing a placard to that effect. "Hi! I'm a self-centered, rather adolescent ignoramus who believes that patriotism is all about only me and I am a tyrant for freedom. Oh, and what's with this honor thing? Is it like a judge or something?"
